Tesla said that the Model Y benchmark version will be delivered in the spring of 2021, while the long-lasting version, dual-motor four-wheel drive version and performance version will begin to be delivered in the autumn of 2020, and now officials have begun to accept preorders.

In terms of appearance, the overall design style and body elements of Model Y are based on Model 3, the front is fully closed, the daylight is located on the inside of the lamp group, and the structure of the lower bumper is the same as that of Model 3, while the rear half of the body, including the roof lines, adopts a sliding back style.

Interior decoration of the new car is also basically the same as Model 3, 15-inch full touch screen, light weight center console, hidden air conditioning outlet, the whole is very simple. Unlike the Model 3, Model Y offers an option for the third row of seats.

At the Model Y press conference, Musk revealed the construction progress of the Shanghai factory and praised the construction team, showing the "Shanghai factory effect drawing" for the first time at the meeting. Musk said that the Shanghai plant will be completed by the end of this year, and when the plant is completed, it will produce affordable Model3 and just released Model Y for the Greater China market.

The positioning of Model Y is used to fill the product gap between entry-level Model 3 and Model X. the emergence of Model Y has better improved Tesla's product series. Model Y is not a scaled-down version of Model X, but more like a SUV version based on the Model 3 platform and design. The overall size of Model Y is 10% larger than that of Model 3. According to Tesla, Model Y will share the architecture with Model 3 and share about 75 per cent of components, far more than 30 per cent of Model X and Model S.
