It means that Volkswagen Group is ready to enter the new energy market and will enter the electric era from now on.

It is understood that the completed SAIC Volkswagen New Energy Factory, located in Anji Road, Jiading District, Shanghai City, is the first brand-new factory specially built for MEB platform model production in the world by Volkswagen Group. The total investment of the project is 17 billion yuan, the total construction area of the factory is about 610,000 square meters, and the planned annual production capacity will be 300,000 vehicles, which will be officially put into production in October next year. The production models will include pure electric vehicles of Volkswagen, Skoda and Audi brands.

The factory started construction in October 2018 and took only 12 months to be completed and put into production. It can be said that Tesla has a fight, but unlike Tesla, the factory is known as the pure electric vehicle factory with the largest production scale and highest efficiency in China.

The first ID. car of the new energy automobile factory is a pure electric medium SUV on MEB platform, and it is also the first ID. family model put into production by SAIC Volkswagen in the future. It is expected to be officially unveiled in the second half of 2020. Although it appeared in camouflage form, there was no obvious difference in the appearance of the domestic ID.3 compared with the overseas models that had been unveiled before. The Volkswagen ID series electric car will also be the first model launched on the Shanghai production line.

At present, Volkswagen has launched Tiguan L plug-in hybrid version and Passat plug-in hybrid version, leading the domestic joint venture PHEV market. In 2019, the first pure electric product, Lavida Pure Electric, was also recently launched.

According to Volkswagen Group's plan, Volkswagen will launch 10 electric vehicles in China by 2023 and produce 22 million electric vehicles by 2028, half of which will be produced in China. It can be said that Volkswagen is very interested in the domestic new energy market, as can be seen from the first pure electric factory established in China this time. Volkswagen CEO Diess also said that "the Chinese market is of the most important significance to the future of Volkswagen Group, and it can even be said that the future of Volkswagen Group will be determined by the Chinese market."

China is the world's largest market for new energy vehicles. In 2018, sales of new energy vehicles in China increased by 61.7% to 1.3 million units.

Not only Volkswagen, but also multinational automobile groups such as Tesla and Toyota have recently made a series of intensive actions in the field of new energy vehicles, which are optimistic about the domestic new energy market.
