Why would such a powerful new energy leader find BYD to cooperate?

From a technical point of view, Toyota does not think it lags behind in electrified technology. But from a market point of view, especially in pure electric vehicles, Toyota is really too slow. However, faced with the trend of vigorously promoting electrification in China, Toyota's hybrid system has not been included in the ranks of new energy, which makes Toyota somewhat "anxious".

As one of the partners, BYD has a certain position in the global new energy vehicle market, not only winning the top spot for many years in a row, but also the only car company that has mastered the three core technologies of battery, motor and electric control.

According to the announcements of the two sides, the new R & D company will be established in China in 2020, with 50% investment from each side, and will carry out related business such as the design, research and development of pure electric vehicles and the platforms and parts used by the vehicles, and launch new pure electric models on this basis. The new company is an R & D company, which will be officially established in China in 2020; second, Toyota and BYD will each contribute 50%.
