At a time when new energy vehicles are being promoted around the world, the Honda carmaker has no aggressive plans to promote electric cars. Honda CEO Baxiang Longhong said in an interview that electric vehicles will not become mainstream in a short period of time, and pure electric is not necessary to reduce carbon emissions. Honda will still focus on hybrid systems.

Baxiang Takagi believes that at this stage, electric vehicles still encounter many limitations, such as a small number of infrastructure, power batteries and other hardware has not made much breakthrough, therefore, pure electric vehicles will not increase sharply in a short period of time. Or become a mainstream model.

At the same time, Baxiang long Hongqiang also stressed: "Honda's goal is to reduce carbon emissions, not to produce electric vehicles for the sake of owning electric cars, so the hybrid system will also be Honda's key development direction."

From the perspective of the domestic new energy market in the second half of this year, new energy sales have continued to decline since the policy was withdrawn, falling for four consecutive months, and the decline continues to expand. Chen Shihua, assistant secretary general of the China Automobile Association, said that sales reached a year-on-year peak in June before the subsidy went downhill, followed by a year-on-year decline for four consecutive months from July to October, and sales fell by nearly half in October. The new energy vehicle market is likely to show negative growth.

Earlier, the United States formally withdrew from the Paris Agreement, which sets out arrangements for global action on climate change after 2020. As an important organizer of the agreement, France chose to stop entangling with the United States and extend an olive branch of expanding cooperation to China, while China and France strengthened cooperation, which means that China has increased the promotion of new energy vehicles. China has become the main market for the promotion of new energy in various countries, but under the decline of the domestic new energy market, it shows that new energy vehicles are not the real wishes of consumers today.

In such an environment, Honda is not so good about the pure electric market for the time being, because reducing the mix of carbon emissions is also one of the plans. However, in the current two main markets, China has introduced a double points policy, and some joint ventures can achieve the lowest cost by purchasing some new energy points in the short term before they can follow the path of their own compliance development in China.

On the other hand, the strictest emissions regulations in history have been introduced in Europe, where regulatory policies, market conditions and consumer behaviour are changing rapidly, meaning that Europe is moving towards electrification faster than anywhere else in the world.

In response, Honda said it would continue to invest in electric vehicles while continuing to develop hybrids. Because of the current development of electric vehicles in places such as Europe and China, Honda will continue to develop pure electric vehicles in order to open up the market.

However, compared with many multinational car companies, Honda clearly does not have such aggressive plans to promote electric cars. For example, Volkswagen Global CEO Herbert Dis announced in March that Volkswagen plans to launch 70 electric vehicles over the next decade, with production of 22 million; Toyota also plans to launch at least 10 electric vehicles in the next decade. Honda has launched only one all-electric model, the Honda e, which will be available in Europe in the summer of 2020. In the domestic market, there are only two Honda models expressing Siming X-NV and concept VE-1.

It can be seen that Honda is undergoing electric transformation in the face of pressure, so it has chosen not to launch a large number of pure electric models, but to focus on developing hybrid systems. Compared with other car companies, Honda's electric transformation is slower.
