The consumer report obtains its reliability data from automatic questionnaires sent to consumer report members. In the latest survey, it received responses from more than 420000 members. This paper introduces in detail the different situations of 2000-2019 models, including some 2020 models, and calculates the problems encountered by members in using vehicles in the past 12 months. These problems are subdivided into 17 fault categories.

In the final selection, Lexus, Mazda and Toyota became the three most reliable brands of the year.

In the annual reliability ranking of car brands selected by Consumer report, Lexus reached the top again, Mazda rose to second, Toyota fell two places to third, and the top three were all Japanese brands; Porsche ranked fourth, fifth or sixth, respectively, Gaines and Hyundai; Subaru fell five places to seventh; Dodge rose to eighth with excellent performance. The ninth place is Kia, and MINI is another European brand in the top 10.

Three of GM's four brands fell to the bottom 10, Cadillac at the bottom, and Buick fell five places to 18th, the only GM brand in the middle. Volkswagen fell nine places to 27th, while its premium brand Audi fell seven places to 14th. It is understood that the reliability problems of these established carmakers are often related to the advanced technology provided by their new cars for the first time, such as touch screen infotainment and driver assistance systems.

Tesla, as a homegrown electric car brand, Model 3 and Model S have been re-recommended, such as Model 3 at the expense of quality while increasing production, but problems such as paint, body panels and broken windows have been solved in the latest survey. However, Tesla Model X is still one of the most unreliable models in the survey, the main problem is electronic equipment failure, resulting in Tesla's overall score is not high, ranked 23rd.

The biggest increase in reliability was the Dodge brand, which jumped 13 places from 2019, while Volkswagen and Acura fell 9 places each and were also among the top five unreliable brands. Consumer members report that there is something wrong with their products and that their reliability has been below average.

The five most unreliable brands are Jeep, Volkswagen, Acura, Alfa Romeo and Cadillac. It is worth noting that Fiat, Jaguar, Land Rover, Maserati and Ram brands did not make the final ranking of the report due to insufficient survey data.

The Consumer report also named the ten best models of the year and the ten most unreliable models.

Among the ten best models of the year, nine are Japanese brands and the other is Hyundai's small SUV KONA (domestic: Beijing Hyundai ENCINO).

Ten most unreliable models: American brands accounted for six seats, while Volkswagen's Tiguan and Atlas were also on the list of the least reliable.

Among them, Volkswagen Atlas mainly has some problems, such as weak acceleration, high noise, high fuel consumption and so on. Although the V6 engine and smooth eight-speed automatic transmission make Atlas feel smooth in daily driving, its acceleration lags behind its competitors. In addition, fuel consumption is also a major disadvantage of Atlas.

The owners of Tesla Model X reported a large number of problems, which made its reliability below average. As a "technology product" with many electronic devices in one, its electronic equipment breaks down frequently, the sound insulation of the vehicle is not very good, and unlike all other SUV, the rear seat can not be put down, which affects the flexibility of suitcase space.

Consumer reports say the reliability rating shows the performance of the vehicle and the probability of causing trouble to car owners due to problems and repairs.
