As a luxury MPV model under GM Buick, GL8 is like the existence of benchmarking. With its large space and business atmosphere, it is favored by many consumers in the domestic MPV market. Some media recently exposed the new Buick GL8 model declaration information, this time Buick is still using new and old models to sell in the same house, both cars have been adjusted.

The new model GL8 is still called ES, while the old model is called GL8, which is actually the same model as the current model, but in the case of the coexistence of new and old models, the Buick GL8 ES was launched in 2016 and finally ushered in a change three years later, but the performance of the new car did not show sincerity.

The biggest change of the new GL8 ES model is the redesign of the front face and rear, with a brand-new intake grille, a chrome-plated decorative strip running through the left and right side to split the headlamp group, the internal structure of the lamp group is adjusted accordingly, and the LED light source is used. In fact, this is very similar to the GL8 Avenri concept car displayed at the Brand Day theme event in April this year.

The side shape of the new model is exactly the same as that of the current sale, while a chrome strip is added in the middle of the tail and connected to the taillights on both sides, echoing with the front of the car, and the rear bumper is adjusted.

As for the modification of the old GL8, it is also extended by the flying wings on both sides of the front sign, all the way through to the middle of the headlights; the rear part of the car changes greatly, the taillights are connected by the chrome-plated crossbeam above, and the taillights are also redesigned in favor of the GL8 Avenri design; the side retains the old classic design.

There is still no news about the interior of the new car, but according to the design of the GL8 Avenri concept car, it can be said that earth-shaking changes have taken place. Using the through-type double screen design, the air conditioning control has been changed from physical keys to touch control, and at the same time, it is expected to be replaced with an electronic lever, which will improve the overall texture.

The new car will continue to carry the existing 2.0T engine, perhaps due to the upgrading of the latest national 6B emission standards, the maximum power of the new car has been reduced from 191 kilowatts to 169 kilowatts, and the transmission system still matches the six-speed manual integrated transmission.

It is worth mentioning that GL8 in the 2018 Baoyan second batch of model crash test results are chilling, as a phenomenal MPV model in the Chinese market, but received a "failed" evaluation. In the collision test, China Insurance Research uses the SAIC Buick GL8 2017 28T comfort model, while in the auxiliary safety test, it uses the 2017 28T flagship model.

In the 25% small-angle collision test, the GL8 showed that the A-pillar was seriously deformed and torn, which caused the dummy to hit the head. In addition, the steering wheel was excessively displaced in the collision, resulting in the front airbag not playing its due role, and the side head airbag did not deploy normally, so the driver's survival probability was very low and got a poor rating (P).

In the side impact test, because there is about 1 stroke 4 tear at the root of the B column, the B column invades the inner chamber more, the driver's torso is seriously impacted, and the roof is raised, so it gets the general (M) rating.

Although under normal circumstances, the A-pillar of MPV will be deformed more seriously for cars of the same class and MPV models, but the material used on the A-pillar of GL8 is not the strongest steel. Compared with the American version of MPV models such as the Odyssey and Mazda 5, the A-pillar of GL8 is more seriously deformed.

In this regard, many netizens complained.

From the MPV list in the first 10 months of this year, Buick GL8 still ranked first in the same class of MPV models with sales of 120000 vehicles, while Honda's Odyssey and Ericsson still lagged behind it. GAC MOTOR, as a homemade, is also below the Odyssey and above Ericsson, after all, Buick GL8 is still the most spacious among the old-fashioned MPV models. However, with the launch of the new Volkswagen MPV Viloran, which will be more than 5.3 meters long and has a wheelbase of 3180mm, it remains to be seen whether the position of Buick GL8 will be shaken.
