On November 20, Wei Jianjun, chairman of Great Wall Motor and founder of WEY brand, said that the annual sales volume of WEY brand exceeded 300,000 vehicles in 2025 at the 3rd anniversary conference of the establishment of WEY brand owned by Great Wall Motor.
On the eve of Guangzhou Auto Show in 2016, Great Wall Motor launched its high-end brand WEY. At present, WEY brand has launched three major models: VV5, VV6 and VV7.
However, from the current development situation, WEY brand impact high sales still have a lot of uncertainty. Due to the decline of the automobile market, WEY brand sales still decline under the support of "Silver Ten". The data shows that the cumulative sales volume of WEY brand from January to October this year is 80,200 vehicles, down 31.09% year-on-year; among them, the sales volume of VV5 and VV7 decline to varying degrees, while the sales volume of VV6 rises sharply.
It is worth noting that Geely Automobile's high-end brand Linke also has the same experience, its sales in the first 10 months can not stop the car market winter, sales appear decline. Among them, the sales volume of Link01 and Link02 declined to varying degrees, while the sales volume of Link03 rose sharply. In addition, there is a certain overlap in the price of WEY brand and Linkages brand, which has certain competitiveness to WEY brand.
However, compared with other high-end brands, WEY brand advantage still lies in cost performance, WEY insists not to cut prices, because once the product loses premium ability, brand promotion is more difficult.
In addition, Wei Jianjun also said at the press conference that all models of WEY brand in 2021 will provide electric selection, covering HEV, PHEV, BEV new energy vehicles in various drive forms; the first hydrogen energy model will be launched in 2022.
In terms of automatic driving, the automatic driving level of WEY brand current production models has reached L2+ level. It is planned to launch L3 automatic driving production models in 2021 and realize commercialization of L4 automatic driving in 2022. The brand plans to enter the European market in 2021, enter the North American market in 2023 and simultaneously expand the global market.
At present, Great Wall Motor, Geely Automobile, Chery Automobile and other high-end brands have plans to enter overseas markets. Geely's Linkages brand is scheduled to launch in Europe in the first half of 2020, while Great Wall's WEY brand will also enter the European market in 2021. In addition to Geely Great Wall, Chery has also set up a research and development center in Frankfurt to prepare for entering the European market.
However, Wei Jianjun also said that WEY's product power is still enough, but lack of professional experience and knowledge in brand promotion, compared with the second and third-tier brands, WEY is not bad, but it still takes a long way to go to the high end.
