Toyota's C-HR and Yize recalled defective gearboxes a year and a half ago and are now recalling replacement of defective engines due to faulty intake valve assembly.

Today, Guangzhou Auto Toyota Motor Co., Ltd., and Tianjin FAW Toyota Motor Co., Ltd. in accordance with the requirements of the regulations on the Administration of defective Automobile products recall and the measures for the implementation of defective Automobile products recall, filed the recall plan with the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration, and decided to recall a total of 11 of the following vehicles from December 17, 2019.

Recall models:

(1) Guangzhou Auto Toyota Motor Co., Ltd. recalled some C-HR vehicles produced on July 18, 2019, a total of 8 vehicles;

(2) Tianjin FAW Toyota Motor Co., Ltd. recalled a total of 3 IZOA cars produced during the period from July 19, 2019 to July 20, 2019;

Reasons for recall:

Some vehicles within the scope of this recall have imperfect assembly of engine intake valves, resulting in incorrect assembly of engine intake valves, interference between intake valves and cylinder liners and pistons while the engine is running, and in extreme cases, engine damage. The power output of the vehicle during driving is affected, and there are hidden dangers.

Solution:

Guangzhou Auto Toyota Motor Co., Ltd., Tianjin FAW Toyota Motor Co., Ltd. will replace qualified engines for vehicles within the scope of the recall free of charge, in order to eliminate safety risks.

Guangzhou Automobile Toyota Motor Co., Ltd., Tianjin FAW Toyota Motor Co., Ltd., Tianjin FAW Toyota Motor Co., Ltd. will notify the relevant car owners by registered letter, phone or text message to arrange free maintenance.

There was a defect in the gearbox.

At the end of 2018, Toyota C-HR and Yize recalled a total of 19896 vehicles due to defects in the continuously variable transmission, due to poor riveting of the blades of the transmission oil circulation, which may fall off during repeated rapid acceleration and other operations, resulting in torque converter damage, in extreme cases may lead to power interruption in vehicle driving, there are safety risks. Therefore, GAC Toyota and FAW Toyota replace qualified torque converters and CVT assemblies free of charge for vehicles within the recall range.

Although the engine recall involves a small number of models, the problem of production and assembly errors is a low-level mistake in the field of automobile manufacturing, which is also a wake-up call to Toyota's production management.

According to the data from January to October 2019, Guangzhou Auto Toyota C-HR accumulated sales of 49541 vehicles, FAW Toyota Yize IZOA cumulative sales of 46437 vehicles.
