On November 29, the beam car project of the BMW Group Great Wall joint venture was officially launched in Zhangjiagang City, Jiangsu Province, which is BMW's second joint venture in China. It is understood that Beam Automobile was established by BMW and Great Wall Motor with 50:50 shares, and the board of directors is composed of six members, including three members from each side of China and Germany, of which the chairman is appointed by Great Wall Motor and the vice chairman is from BMW Group.

According to the plan, the total investment of the beam automobile project is 5.1 billion yuan, the construction time is 2020, the completion time is 2022, the annual standard production capacity is 160000 units, and it is expected to have about 3000 employees. The business model in addition to the production of pure electric vehicles and fuel vehicles two production lines. The two sides will also conduct joint research and development of pure electric vehicles, where the future MINI pure electric vehicles and new products from Great Wall are expected to be put into production.

In terms of product sales, Beamlight has no plans to build new sales channels in the early stage, and the products produced by this project will be sold in the existing channels of Great Wall and BMW respectively.

However, it is worth noting that in the announcement issued by Great Wall Motor on November 22nd, it was only mentioned that the joint venture company would "build a total export manufacturing and pure electric passenger cars with an annual production capacity of 160000 fuel passenger cars." but there is no production and sales of pure electric vehicles.

In this regard, some Great Wall insiders said that the qualification (for the production and sale of pure electric vehicles) is still in the approval process. After the follow-up qualification, they will also issue an announcement.

It can be seen that this cooperation lies more in the integration of resources between the two sides. Although Great Wall Motor has been established as a domestic independent brand for decades, compared with a century-old group like BMW, there are still many things to learn from and learn from, including learning experience in technology, international market operation, and understanding of global laws and regulations, which will also play a good role in promoting the globalization of Great Wall Motor.
