He joined Volkswagen Group in 1990 and is a senior professional manager with 25 years of working experience in Volkswagen Group. Work experience covers Audi, Volkswagen and Skoda brands. Have strong adaptability and international management experience. In 2005, Volkswagen got into trouble in the Chinese market. Van Ande led Volkswagen to overcome the market bottleneck and get out of the predicament. After the outbreak of Volkswagen's "emission gate", Volkswagen appointed him as the chief executive of Volkswagen in North America, hoping that he could use his rich management and market experience to revive Volkswagen's North American market. However, due to disagreements with Volkswagen management over North American strategy and organizational structure, Van Ande refused to transfer to the North American company, announced his resignation, and left Volkswagen, where he has worked for 25 years.

Before becoming a member of Volvo's board of directors, Van Ande was appointed by Zhejiang Geely Holdings Group and became an independent director of Malaysia's Proton Holdings. It is understood that Zhejiang Geely holding Group has a controlling stake in Proton, a Proton car under its control, and a controlling stake in the British sports car Lotus.
