AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)12/05 Report--
Recently, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) posted a notice on its website: parts supplied by Takata to the world's five largest automakers may absorb moisture, causing airbags to burst or underinflated. The recall involves parts made between 1995 and 1999 that were sold to BMW, Audi, Toyota, Honda and Mitsubishi.
Japan's Takata Company, which went bankrupt due to airbag problems, recently suffered another car safety accident, resulting in at least one death due to the harm of airbags. A government document released in the United States on December 4th pointed out that because of the newly discovered problems, the United States will recall another 1.4 million cars with Takata airbags in the driver's seat.
A newly discovered Takata airbag problem has killed an Australian driver and injured another Australian and Cypriot driver, according to new documents released on December 4th.
Takata filed for bankruptcy protection in June 2017 because of a surge in recall fees for defective airbags after the airbag scandal, and transferred it to KSS, an American auto parts company owned by Chinese companies, for $1.588 billion in November of the same year.
Finally, Takata declared bankruptcy in 2018 because of defects in the manufacture of airbags, which caused inflators to explode and eject debris under certain circumstances, killing at least 24 people and injuring hundreds more.
It is reported that the recalled cars include 116,000 BMW3 cars made between 1999 and 2001, as well as some Audi, Honda, Toyota and Mitsubishi cars made between 1995 and 2000.
So far, BMW has announced a recall of 116,000 BMW 3 series vehicles from 1999 to 2001; BMW noted that about 8000 vehicles were identified as having faulty airbags and should be off the road. BMW plans to replace the faulty airbag with a new airbag.
As for some Audi, Honda, Toyota and Mitsubishi cars manufactured between 1995 and 2000, it has yet to be confirmed which models will be recalled. U. S. safety regulators say Mitsubishi has informed the government that the only American model affected is the 1998-2000 Montero.
The NHTSA Safety Agency said in a statement that it was discussing the recall with the automaker. The authorities urged car owners to go to designated websites in the coming weeks to inquire about the details of the recall.
