AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)12/08 Report--
Major luxury brands have released data on new car sales in China in November. according to statistics, with the exception of Cadillac, the other five have achieved double-digit growth, confirming the prosperity of the luxury car market in the cold winter.
According to the rankings, BMW (including Mini) continues to take the lead by a small margin, temporarily ranking first in luxury brand sales. Audi recovered significantly, Mercedes-Benz remained stable, and Lexus once again overtook Cadillac to further narrow the gap.
BMW's upward momentum continues. In November, BMW (including Mini) sold 68366 vehicles in China, up 12.1% from a year earlier, and accumulated sales in the first 11 months to 655783, up 13.6% from a year earlier, temporarily ranking first among luxury brands. According to this trend, BMW is expected to win the top sales of luxury brands in 2019.
BMW 5-Series and X3 have become the main drivers of BMW's growth this year, while after the replacement of the new 3-Series, sales have declined due to price and model problems, and there is still room for BMW 3-Series to rise with increased terminal discounts and rising production capacity. At the Guangzhou Auto Show in November, BMW unveiled new 320,330 models, changing the situation of only 325 power configurations. At present, the price of the whole series is 29.39-409900 yuan, all of which are equipped with 2.0T engines, corresponding to 156hp, 184hp and 258hp respectively.
Audi performed poorly in the first half of the year and began to make efforts in the second half of the year, and now it has exceeded 60,000 vehicles for three consecutive months. Audi sold 67402 new cars in China in November, up 16.8 per cent from a year earlier, and sold 618596 in the first 11 months, up 3.5 per cent from a year earlier.
In the past year, a number of Audi main models have been replaced one after another, resulting in a greater impact on sales. In the first half of the year, the new A6L and Q3 were listed respectively, and the sales volume gradually recovered with the increase of preferential treatment. After losing the championship again, Audi plans to have more than 20 products on the market next year, including mid-term revamped A4L, new A6L, new domestic car Q3 Sportback and so on.
Mercedes-Benz's overall growth remains stable, and the gap between Mercedes-Benz and BMW is small. In November, Mercedes-Benz sold 57901 vehicles, up 11 per cent from a year earlier, and accumulated sales in the first 11 months to 640933, up 6.3 per cent from a year earlier.
Mercedes-Benz C-Class, E-Class and GLC SUV all reach more than 10,000 vehicles per month, and the new domestic GLB will be launched at the end of November and is expected to help Mercedes-Benz complete its year-end impulse in December. Mercedes-Benz GLB positioning compact SUV, the price range of 31.48-354800 yuan, equipped with the same Mercedes-Benz A-class 1.3T in-line four-cylinder engine and 7-speed double clutch gearbox.
In November, Mercedes-Benz also announced an additional recall of E-Class cars, further strengthening the strength of the front shock absorber and adding other reinforced firmware to the original recall, involving 400000 models.
In terms of second-tier luxury brands, Lexus once again overtook Cadillac, selling 19325 vehicles in November, up 16.5% from the same period last year. Cumulative sales in the first 11 months reached 180239, up 21% from the same period last year, and is expected to exceed the 200000 mark for the whole year. Price increases and price increases failed to resist the enthusiasm of target consumers.
Cadillac is the only one of the top six luxury brands that has seen a sharp drop in sales due to the suspension of production of its main products. Cadillac sold 16800 vehicles in China in November, down 20 per cent from a year earlier to 194800 from January to November, down 5.76 per cent from a year earlier. Cadillac will be under a lot of pressure next year because of being chased by Lexus to narrow the gap.
Cadillac sales showed a large decline, mainly due to the suspension of production of ATS-L and XTS, while the replacement CT5 and CT4 models failed to keep up quickly. Cadillac CT5 officially went on sale on November 18th, with a price of 27.97-339700 yuan, equipped with 2.0T variable cylinder turbocharged engine and 10-speed automatic gearbox. At the same time, CT4, a direct replacement for ATS, has confirmed that it will go on sale next year and the price will fall further.
Under the sharp price reduction promotion, Volvo achieved double-digit growth. Volvo's November sales rose 26.7% from a year earlier to 14502 vehicles, with cumulative sales of 138053 vehicles in the first 11 months, up 16.3% from a year earlier, surpassing last year's sales. It is reported that Volvo recently cleared the inventory of dealers to ease the financial pressure of dealers, the terminal price reduction is relatively large. In terms of new cars, the replacement of the main car S60 next year is expected to further increase sales.
Taken together, both BMW and Mercedes-Benz are expected to compete for the title of luxury brand sales in 2019, there is not much difference between the two, the final December will be shopping. The role of "price for volume" will be weakened, Cadillac and Volvo need to seek other new growth points, and the brand value effect of Lexus will pose a threat to Cadillac's second-tier top position.
