Today, Great Wall released a November sales report, down 13% from a year earlier, and announced the departure of Liu Yan, vice president of Great Wall and general manager of WEY brand marketing.
According to the Great Wall Motor production and sales report in November 2019, Great Wall Motor sales totaled 115162 vehicles, down 13.08 per cent from a year earlier, while sales in the first 11 months totaled 954290, up 3.81 per cent from the same period last year.
In the middle of the year, Great Wall reduced its sales target for 2019 from 1.2 million to 1.07 million, so it achieved 89 per cent of its adjusted sales target by the end of November.
For the Harvard brand, sales totaled 83378 vehicles in November, down 21.63% from a year earlier. Of these, Harvard H6 sold 41676 vehicles, down 23.14% from the same period last year, followed by Harvard M6 and Harvard F7, with sales of 15890 and 14015 respectively.
The WEY brand continued to decline and the market performance was weak. The WEY brand sold 10450 vehicles in November, down 8.16% from a year earlier, while sales in the first 11 months totaled 90649, down 29.05% from a year earlier. Among them, sales of VV5 and VV7 both fell by more than 60 per cent from January to November, while VV6 became the brand's main selling model, accounting for 58 per cent of the total sales of 52869 vehicles in the first 11 months.
Great Wall Motor also issued a personnel change announcement today, announcing that Liu Yan, vice president of Great Wall Motor and general manager of WEY brand marketing, will officially leave on December 31 this year. At the same time, recommended by Great Wall Automobile, Liu Yan will join the China Automobile Industry Association as deputy secretary-general and assume the responsibilities entrusted by the new council of the association.
Liu Yan has only joined the company for one year and three months, and she is mainly responsible for the marketing, sales, channel and after-sales service of the WEY brand. Great Wall Motor said that during her tenure, Liu Yan, with her rich marketing experience, excellent professional quality, dedication and professionalism, assumed the responsibilities of WEY brand building, product promotion, sales promotion and new business promotion, and dutifully fulfilled her marketing mission.
Before joining Great Wall Motor, Liu Yan worked for luxury brands such as FAW-Volkswagen Audi and Volvo, and was promoted to Chief operating Officer of Volvo Automobile China sales Company in September 2014.
Liu Yan left at this time, either because of the pressure of declining sales of the WEY brand, or strategic adjustment. Not long ago, at the Guangzhou Auto Show, WEY held a celebration of the third anniversary of the brand. Wei Jianjun, chairman of Great Wall Motor, announced the globalization strategy of the WEY brand. He plans to enter the European market in 2021 and the North American market in 2023. The annual sales of the WEY brand will exceed 300000 vehicles by 2025.
According to the performance report, Great Wall Motor achieved revenue of 61.5 billion yuan in the first three quarters of 2019, down 6.1% from the same period last year, and net profit of 2.917 billion yuan, down 25.7% from the same period last year.
