The imported Mercedes-Benz once again logged on the website of the General Administration of Customs, and thousands of cars were suspended by the Customs because of hidden risks, requiring enterprises to carry out technical rectification of the vehicles before they could be released. This is the third time since August last year that Mercedes-Benz has been notified by the General Administration of Customs because of its technical risks.

On December 9, the General Administration of Customs issued a warning notice on the hidden danger of falling triangular glass strips in some imported Mercedes-Benz cars. According to the announcement, part of Mercedes-Benz imported Mercedes-Benz GLE, GLS vehicles, due to parts design deviation, resulting in vehicles in the driving process of the risk of falling triangular glass strips, some vehicles have entered the domestic market, the problem models involved a total of 5332.

According to the risk assessment report of technical institutions, the above problems can be effectively eliminated by installing fastening gaskets.

The General Administration of Customs has asked local customs to suspend the release of problematic vehicles in stock at ports, closely supervise enterprises to implement technical rectification by adding fastening gaskets, and confirm the effect of rectification and re-inspection before release. At the same time, the General Administration of Customs has urged enterprises to take the initiative to contact users and implement risk mitigation measures for problem vehicles that have entered the domestic market as soon as possible according to the same requirements.

In addition, the imported Mercedes-Benz also logged on the website of the General Administration of Customs twice because of the problem of "wrong installation and missing installation".

On April 8, 2019, the General Administration of Customs issued a warning notice on the hidden danger of ternary catalytic converter mismatch in some imported Mercedes-Benz cars. It is understood that when the customs carried out environmental protection inspection on imported cars, it was found that the models of ternary catalytic converters of imported cars, including Mercedes-Benz GLE, GLE Coupe, and GLS, were not consistent with those announced by environmental protection. According to the investigation, 279 cars have been delivered to users, 29 cars are in stock at dealers, and a total of 308 imported Mercedes-Benz cars have problems.

Mercedes-Benz (China) Automobile sales Co., Ltd. said that the reason for the mismatch of ternary catalytic converters was that the factory's old vehicle feeding IT system failed to check the consistency of the initial models of GLE, GLE Coupe and GLS, resulting in mixed installation of three-yuan catalytic converters for some vehicles. The solution is to effectively eliminate it by replacing the correct ternary catalytic converter. The customs measure is to confirm the rectification effect of the problem vehicles in the port inventory and pass the re-inspection before they can be released, and the problem vehicles that have entered the domestic market are urged to carry out a "recall".

In August 2018, Mercedes-Benz (China) Automobile sales Co., Ltd. filed a recall plan with the General Administration of Customs, recalling a total of 164imported E 43 AMG 4MATIC vehicles.

The reason is that these vehicles are not equipped with active braking assistance systems. That is, the active braking system that should have been lost in the original factory, such as distance warning, autonomous braking and brake assistance depending on the situation can not be used, increasing the risk of collision. Mercedes-Benz explained that it was caused by an error in the production documents and there was a complaint and claim.

Mercedes-Benz said it would install an active brake assist system for the affected vehicles to eliminate hidden dangers.

Wrong installation and missing assembly and parts design deviation are both imprecise problems. The former indicates that there are loopholes in production and manufacturing, while the latter is a design defect. Three times in a row on the website of the General Administration of Customs, it seems that the control of imported Mercedes-Benz on some minor issues is not strict enough, which loses the rigorous spirit of German craftsmanship.

According to the data, Mercedes-Benz brand sold 57901 vehicles in China in November 2019, up 11% from the same period last year. Cumulative sales in the first 11 months reached 640933, up 6.3% from the same period last year, temporarily ranking second among luxury brands.
