It is speculated that the new car will be used as an entry-level ES8, and the starting price is expected to be around 400000.

The new NIO ES8 announced this time is not much different from the current model in appearance, only in details, such as adding the word "NIO" to the new model on the tail mark and adjusting the taillights.

The biggest difference lies in the power change of the new model, from the dual AC asynchronous motor of the former ES8 to the same former permanent magnet synchronous motor + rear AC asynchronous motor as the ES6, and the maximum power of the vehicle is also reduced from the previous 240kW+240kW to 160kW+240kW.

The replacement of the permanent magnet synchronous motor will provide better energy consumption performance, so that the ES8 will have a higher cruise performance, about an increase of more than 50km, but the overall power reduction also weakens its acceleration performance.

At the same time, the weakening of the configuration also means that the new model will lower the threshold for consumers to buy cars. According to the current ES8 model is divided into seven-seater version and six-seater version, the price is 448000 yuan and 456000 yuan respectively. The standard 70kWh liquid-cooled thermostat battery pack requires an increase of 50, 000 yuan if you choose the 84kWh battery pack configuration, which means that the ES8 price of 84kWh is 458000 yuan and 506000 yuan respectively. The threshold for ordinary consumers to buy a car is not low.

According to the current sales volume of the ES8, it only sells about 400 units a month, so it hopes that the planning of the new ES8 will provide consumers with more choices, thus increasing its own sales.

According to news and pictures, the new car will be an ES6 Coupe version and will be unveiled at NIO Day in Shenzhen on December 28th. Before the news was announced, it was widely rumored that a single-motor ES6 model, known as a "cheap version", would be launched at the annual NIO Day launch event this year, which would help to boost more sales. But officials have previously indicated that the price of the new model is comparable to that of the current ES6, rather than the rumored low-cost single-motor ES6.

If NIO is just to add one more model this time, but there is not much change in the price, it may make NIO feel a little "dead". After all, the sales volume of most of the sedan SUV models on the market is basically similar to that of its traditional SUV models, whether BMW X4 or Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe.

If the more anticipated single-motor models are launched, the decline in terminal prices in terms of price and cost may have a different effect. Before the release of the car ET7 under the R & D platform, the ES6 Coupe version with more favorable prices should be able to support some of the market share.

According to the latest sales data, the delivery volume of NIO reached 2528 units in November 2019, a new high in 2019, of which ES6 delivered 2067 units in November and ES8 accounted for 461 units. In the first 11 months, the cumulative delivery number reached 17395 units, ES6 delivered 8896 units, and ES8 delivered 8499 units in the whole year.
