Volkswagen China has issued an expanded recall notice that a number of imported Volkswagen cars have been recalled because of lost production records. The official approach is to buy back directly from car owners and scrap the vehicles. This kind of recall is very rare in the industry. However, at present, Volkswagen has not announced the specific plan for the repurchase, including the repurchase amount and so on.

According to the circular, Volkswagen (China) sales Co., Ltd. filed the recall plan with the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration in accordance with the requirements of the regulations on the recall of defective Automobile products and the measures for the implementation of the regulations on the recall of defective Automobile products.

Volkswagen China has decided to expand the recall of some imports of 2008-2017 Golf, Beatles, Carewell and Matway cars produced between February 25, 2008 and October 9, 2017, totaling 14 vehicles. The reason for the expansion of the recall is to confirm that more models produced by other Volkswagen plants have the same safety risks through further investigation.

Volkswagen China issued a recall notice in February, recalling some imported 2010-2016 cars made between January 29, 2010 and October 20, 2015. involving CC, Touareg, Yue, Huiteng, Golf, Sharon, Shangku, Tuwei, Yiou, Maiteng and other models, a total of 137vehicles.

As a result, Volkswagen China recalled a total of 151 vehicles, involving more than a dozen imported models.

The notice shows that the production traceability records of vehicles within the scope of this recall are incomplete, there may be inconsistencies with the configuration related to mass production vehicles, and it is impossible to confirm whether some of its safety systems are affected. At the same time, vehicles may have hardware deviations that affect fault diagnosis, and there may be safety risks.

The solution given by Volkswagen (China) sales Co., Ltd. is that the above vehicles will be recalled and scrapped in the form of buyback to eliminate safety risks.

Although the recall involves a small number of issues, and there are no very clear quality defects, but Volkswagen's direct buyback and scrap treatment is commendable. Netizens are more concerned about whether the official buyback is the original price buyback?

According to Volkswagen, Volkswagen sold 316700 vehicles in China in November, up 4 per cent from a year earlier, with cumulative sales of 2.8089 million vehicles in the first 11 months, down 0.4 per cent from a year earlier.
