Speaking of automotive safety certification bodies, Europe's Euro-NCAP (European Union New car Safety Evaluation Association) and the United States' IIHS (American Highway Safety Insurance Association) collision tests are more authoritative, while C-IASI (China Insurance Automobile Safety Index) is also recognized in China, in addition to closer to the fact, its collision test design also comes from the same IIHS, even the "magic car" Passat has been at the bottom.

A few days ago, the official Wechat account of China Baoyan learned that the C-IASI Management Center completed and made public for the first time a demonstration test of a 25% small offset collision on the front of the occupant side (also known as a 25% small offset collision on the right side).

The test model used this time is Volvo's XC60, but the configuration and crash test rating of the specific model have not been announced, and the car can check the previously tested version of the 2019 T5 all-wheel-drive smart. Judging from the official photos and videos, the performance is OK.

In the vehicle accident sample, the frontal small area collision is more common than other collision cases, and the collision is the closest to the real accident scene, so the safety protection ability of the vehicle itself is very high. However, after a long period of collision process, many car companies have been familiar with the test standards, so they will strengthen the front structure of the car body for the main driver side impact, and ignore the safety of the co-driver because of the cost.

Compared with the main driving position, the safety of the co-driver needs to be paid more attention to. In many cases, when the driver is driving the vehicle, the first consciousness will protect himself first and ignore the safety of the co-driver. Once the safety protection performance of the co-driver is poor, it may lead to serious casualties. To this end, IIHS began conducting 25% offset crash tests on the driver side in June 2016 to further improve vehicle safety.

It is worth noting that since IIHS joined the 25% small offset collision on the right and conducted surprise tests, almost all of the seven Japanese SUV models that received "excellent" ratings in the main driver side crashes were downgraded, only Hyundai Tusheng got excellent ratings, and the other five models received three good and two passes, while Toyota RAV4 got a poor rating.

I learned on the Internet that as early as mid-June this year, Baoyan C-IASI completed the first 25% offset collision test on the co-driver side in China. The test model was the Chevrolet Malibu XL model, which performed a little badly in the crash. As an American model, the A-pillar was directly hit and bent.

Obviously, the addition of 25% small offset collision on the right side will not only enable car companies to improve product quality under the strict supervision of third-party organizations. Of course, as consumers are more willing to be able to spontaneously improve the safety performance of vehicles, they will be able to withstand the test when they are sampled for the first time, rather than this kind of post-remedial and "test-oriented" promotion.

As for the 25% offset crash test, so far only IIHS and C-IASI are performing in the world. As the test becomes more and more mature, C-IASI continues the 25% small offset crash test on the right side of IIHS. I wonder if the car companies panicked?
