On December 30,2019, the delivery of Tesla Model 3 made in China caught up with the last bus. In Shanghai Super Factory, 15 domestic Model 3 were officially delivered to internal employees. It is understood that the first batch of vehicle delivery employees include Tesla sales champions, factory technicians, delivery team leaders, etc., from Shanghai, Beijing, Shenzhen, Chengdu, Hangzhou and other places.

This is also a milestone event for Tesla to achieve production in China. Tesla Shanghai Super Factory officially laid the foundation and started construction on January 7,2019. It was completed and put into production in October and officially delivered at the end of the year. Tesla took only one year, which almost set a historical record in the automobile manufacturing industry.

However, Tesla Shanghai Super Factory is only an assembly plant at present. The vehicles put into production are imported to China for assembly and production in the form of CKD, and the four processes of automobile production have not been fully established, and the localized supply chain has not been fully established. Industry insiders say the bigger challenge for Tesla's Shanghai plant in the future is to cultivate a localized supply chain and use localized cells.

In March 2019, Bloomberg reported that Tesla was negotiating with Ningde Times about battery order supply. In November, it was also reported that Tesla had reached a preliminary non-binding agreement with Ningde Times, which would supply batteries to Tesla's Shanghai plant as early as 2020.

The use of localized battery cells will be a necessary way for Tesla to further reduce costs. Tesla has pointed out in a public report that the cost of producing Model 3 at the Shanghai plant in the future will be 65% lower than that of the US production system. Tesla's next model, the Model Y, will be launched by the middle of next year, and the Model Y will also be produced at the Shanghai plant.

Tesla's Model 3, produced at its Shanghai plant, is expected to begin larger deliveries in January 2020. Tesla hopes to achieve a production target of 2000 to 3000 vehicles per week in the first half of 2020, with annual production of about 150,000 vehicles.

Model 3 standard battery life upgrade version (made in China) price 355,800 yuan, battery life 460 kilometers, top speed 225 kilometers per hour, 100 kilometers acceleration time 5.6 seconds, standard basic version of auxiliary driving function, the most prominent sign is the tail with Chinese logo "Tesla" words.

According to the latest Catalogue of Recommended Models for Promotion and Application of New Energy Vehicles issued by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (the 11th batch in 2019), the catalogue shows that the domestic Tesla Model 3 is also among them. According to the national new energy subsidy policy in 2019, the domestic version of Model 3 will enjoy a subsidy of 24.75 million yuan. At the same time, domestic Model 3 has been included in the list of vehicle purchase tax exemption, saving nearly 30,000 yuan.

Not long ago, Tesla received loans from Chinese banks to add Chinese business. Tesla has agreed to a five-year loan of up to 10 billion yuan with a number of Chinese banks, including China Construction Bank, Agricultural Bank of China, Industrial and Commercial Bank of China and Shanghai Pudong Development Bank. Tesla plans to use some of the funds to repay the previous 3.5 billion yuan loan, and the rest for the Shanghai factory and China operations.

At the same time, Tesla officially announced on December 28 that China's first V3 super charging pile officially landed in Shanghai Jinqiao Super Charging Station, which has now been officially opened to the public. According to introduction, V3 charging pile can support up to 150kW peak charging power, more than double that of V2.

Tesla's domestic scale will expand, production costs will be reduced, brand premium and price advantages will gradually become prominent, and the survival space of local competitors will be further squeezed in the future.
