According to the financial report of Lailai in 2018, 11348 new ES8 cars were delivered throughout the year, with a total revenue of 4.9 billion yuan, but a net loss of 9.6 billion yuan, an increase of 91% over the same period last year, and the original plan to build its own factory in Shanghai was cancelled.

Zhihu user "Zhi Child", who claimed to be a former employee of NIO, exposed several "inside stories" in the article:

It also exposed the policy of NIO's internal employees to buy cars to increase sales, and the company rented back for three years. Specifically, if NIO is still here three years later, the employee not only got a car, but also earned 80,000 yuan.

As for the problem of returning the car, the user did not disclose that earlier, a number of users did request to return the car because they found a problem, but later NIO said that he had communicated with the customer to solve the problem. We looked at sales and learned that sales of Xilai suddenly soared to more than 3000 vehicles in November and December last year, delivering 6407 vehicles in just two months. From January to February this year, ES8 delivered 1805 vehicles and 811 vehicles respectively, and NIO expects to deliver about 3500 units in the first quarter. It means that the delivery volume of the whole first quarter of this year is only that of December last year, and the gap is really quite large.

Zhihu's article also aroused concern, which mentioned that the construction of the factory was suspended, the staff was reorganized, and some employees could only be laid off, while the Nanjing factory was laid off in a disguised form. At the same time, this article also exposes a number of internal chaos problems.

While Tesla reduced the price to sell the competitive market and accelerated the construction of the factory in Shanghai, the domestic new car-building force was facing tremendous pressure, while the Lulai car, which competed directly with Tesla in price, faced the test of life and death.

Ulai also expects delivery volume to remain depressed in the first half of this year. It is expected that ES8 will deliver 3500 to 3800 units in the first quarter of 2019, a decrease of more than half compared with the fourth quarter; total revenue of 13.9-1.516 billion yuan, a decrease of about 60% compared with the fourth quarter; and delivery volume is expected to remain low in the second quarter.
