AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)01/08 Report--

Volvo, a second-tier luxury brand, recently announced its annual sales in 2019, with a total of 705452 new cars sold worldwide, an increase of 9.8% over the same period last year and a breakthrough for six consecutive years. Of these, a total of 161436 vehicles were sold in China (including the mainland, Hong Kong and Taiwan), while the mainland market sold 154559 vehicles in the whole year.

In terms of regional segmentation, the largest volume is still Volvo's home market, Europe, where total sales for the whole year were 340600, an increase of 7.2% over the same period last year, accounting for nearly 50% of global sales, followed by the Chinese market. it is also Volvo's single market with the largest year-on-year growth, with a total of 155000 vehicles for the whole year, up 18.7% from the same period last year, accounting for 22%. Compared with the Chinese market, the United States also accounts for a large share of the market, reaching 15.3 percent, an increase of 10.1 percent over the same period last year and more than 100000 vehicles.

The reason for Volvo's growth in China has something to do with Geely Holdings, whose sales have been continuously supported by the successive launch of domestic models. Since Geely acquired Volvo, Volvo has three vehicle manufacturing bases (Daqing factory, Chengdu factory, Luqiao factory) and one engine factory (Zhangjiakou engine factory) in China, and realizes the domestic production of S90, XC60, brand-new S60, brand-new XC40 and other models.

Among them, Volvo S90 and XC60 became the main sales models in China, with medium-sized SUV XC60 selling 62594 vehicles for the whole year, up 28% year-on-year, while medium and large sedan S90 sold 43130 vehicles, up 24% from the same period last year. Another flagship model, the SUV XC90, also contributed 17806 vehicles, up 21% from the same period last year. As the newly launched XC40 and the new S60 are still in the climbing period, they will also provide more sales support for the domestic market in the future.

It is worth noting that XC60 and S90, which have high sales, have a lot of complaints in China, most of which are on the list on a complaint platform for a long time because of body resonance, abnormal noise inside the car and engine noise. Some car owners reported that there was a jitter when the new car was bought, causing headaches and dizziness while driving, complained many times and found 4S stores to seek solutions to protect their rights.

In response to this situation, some people in the industry said that there is body resonance in every car, but the Volvo model is relatively serious, and whether it can be accepted varies from person to person. According to the proportion, about 3-5% of the car owners may be in a state of discomfort.

However, as Volvo continues to explore the terminal offers, its sales volume is still rising steadily, among which the relevant channel price of S90 has fallen to 289000, a difference of only 2000 yuan with the new S60 listed on the market. It has to be said that Volvo's "price for quantity" approach is very effective in the domestic market.

With the comprehensive update of Volvo's three major model series, 40, 60 and 90 series, it means that all Volvo models have been updated, including seven domestic and imported models, covering all market segments. In the future, Volvo will launch an electrification strategy and plans to launch a new model every five years, of which the XC40 pure electric will be its first pure electric model.

Judging from the announced sales of second-tier luxury brands, Cadillac sold 212500 vehicles for the whole year, down 6.7% from the same period last year; Lexus sold 200500 vehicles for the whole year, up 25% from the same period last year, while Volvo 154600 vehicles. Still in the third position of domestic second-tier luxury brands, whether or how to maintain growth in the future will be a problem that Volvo needs to face.

There are also media reports that Mercedes-Benz parent Daimler and Volvo are considering cooperation in the internal combustion engine sector to cut R & D costs, but there are still no results, but it is worth noting that Geely holds a 9.69% stake in Daimler.
