For a long time, Volkswagen Passat, which has a certain historical status, can be regarded as the ancestor of domestic joint venture medium-sized cars, and its sales have always been in the forefront of medium-sized cars, and it is one of the German products famous for its safety. And all these phenomena have virtually pushed Passat to the pinnacle of the domestic automobile industry, and known as the "magic car."

However, since the emergence of a safety testing agency called China Insurance Research and evaluated it, it has surprised everyone unexpectedly that the Passat, as a peak model, did not get an excellent rating, but a P (bad rating) and M (general) rating, and set the worst score in the history of an C-IASI bias collision.

According to the video released by C-IASI, Passat's left front wheel invaded the cockpit at the moment of the collision, the A-pillar was directly broken and the door panel was knocked open. In the 2020 test, the American version of Passat received two "excellent" ratings. SAIC-Volkswagen Passat should have better test results than SAIC-Volkswagen Passat, which uses the new MQB platform, but the final result was unexpected. This makes many consumers feel that Chinese and foreign versions are different and suspect that they are treated differently.

The Chinese market, one of Volkswagen's main sales support regions, accounted for more than 40 per cent of Volkswagen's global sales in November 2019, reaching 316700 vehicles, up 4 per cent from a year earlier. Among them, a number of SAIC-Volkswagen models are best-selling models, including Passat. However, such a region, which is believed by the public to be able to determine its future development, is treated differently, which is obviously unacceptable to consumers.

However, since Passat got unsatisfactory results in PICC research in October, Volkswagen officials did not say that, but chose to continue public relations, including brand maintenance, dispel rumors, and even increase sales promotion to save its sales. As SAIC-Volkswagen sales were still unannounced in December, cumulative sales in the first 11 months were 1.767 million, down 6.72% from a year earlier. Passat's sales rose 102.8% in November from a year earlier to 25426 vehicles, a total of 191100 vehicles for the whole year. It is believed that it is still rising in December driven by prices, and it remains to be seen how well it will perform this year.
