China's passenger car sales have achieved continuous growth since it entered popularity in 2010, and the passenger car industry declined for the first time in 2018 (- 4.2%). It began to enter a period of deep adjustment, and the market performance declined further this year.

According to the data, the cumulative sales of passenger cars in 2019 were 20.6976 million, down 7.4% from a year earlier, of which retail sales of passenger cars in December were 2.141 million, down 3.4% from a year earlier, narrowing the 4.1% decline in November. However, according to Cui Dongshu, secretary general of the Federation of passengers, retail sales in the passenger car market in 2019 still fell short of expectations.

In the face of the declining trend for the whole of this year, German and Japanese brands are rising against the trend, among which Japanese brands have become the most prominent brands in 2019, with the exception of Dongfeng Nissan, "two fields" have achieved year-on-year growth. Dongfeng Nissan's cumulative annual sales of 1287367 vehicles, although slightly down 1% from the same period last year, advanced one place compared with 2018. At the same time, it also set a record for best sales of the year, with market share rising to 6.1% from 5.6% in 2018.

As the "two fields" Honda and Toyota outperformed the market and most car companies, ranking compared to the previous year to achieve an all-round rise. Honda's cumulative sales in 2019 are still higher than Toyota's, including Dongfeng Honda's total annual sales of 800089 vehicles, a year-on-year increase of 11pi 6%, making it the highest-selling car company in the two fields this year, while Guangzhou Auto Honda accumulated 770876 vehicles for the whole year, up 4.2% from the same period last year. Last year there was Honda CR-V 's "increased oil" influence, this year it is GAC Honda's turn to fall into the "stall door" time, but still did not let Honda's sales decline.

Affected by the replacement of a number of new cars, FAW Toyota failed to meet its year-end sales target this year, becoming the smallest increase among the two fields, with a total of 729233 vehicles for the whole year, a slight increase of 1.8% over the same period last year, while Guangzhou Auto Toyota increased by 17.6% to 682008 vehicles, becoming the first car company to achieve its year-end sales target ahead of schedule.

Although German brands still occupy the largest market share of domestic passenger cars, their performance is not as good as that of Japanese brands. In 2019, SAIC-Volkswagen slipped out of the position of the year after five years and was surpassed by FAW-Volkswagen with a score of more than 40,000 vehicles. If FAW-Volkswagen has more than one Audi brand than SAIC, it is also the case in the past.

In fact, more reason is in 2019, SAIC Volkswagen's Skoda brand fell sharply, if Skoda can guarantee growth or not, SAIC-Volkswagen will not lose the first place. Secondly, at the end of 2009, FAW-Volkswagen established the Jetta brand separately, and achieved amazing results in just 4 months.

As the largest SAIC group in China, all of them were "wiped out" in 2019, including SAIC-Volkswagen, SAIC-GM, SAIC-GM Wuling and SAIC passenger vehicles, three of which showed double-digit declines. it can be seen that SAIC was greatly affected in 2019.

In addition, full-year sales of Beijing Hyundai, represented by Korean car companies, fell 13.1% year-on-year to 686400 vehicles. The overall market performance is tepid, and the market share is 0.1% smaller than in 2018.

The autonomous car companies that appear in the top 15 in annual sales include Geely, Great Wall, Changan, Chery and SAIC. Among them, Chery achieved sales growth by virtue of lower pricing and terminal discounts, with a sharp increase of 12.1% for the whole year. it has become the only car company among independent brands to achieve growth.

The other four all showed a year-on-year decline, with Geely falling the most, falling 9.3% year-on-year, with its market share unchanged from the previous year. It is almost impossible to calculate a slight year-on-year decline in Great Wall sales of just 81 vehicles, although the Federation released annual sales estimates for Great Wall cars.

Throughout the overall market performance in 2019, most car companies are affected by the downward trend of the market and the change of policies of the five countries and six countries in China, which makes most car companies show signs of decline, and only Japanese brands and individual car companies have bucked the trend. Cui Dongshu, secretary-general of the National passenger car Market Information Association, also said, "as the Japanese brand 'national six' models are well prepared, they have the first opportunity to switch between 'national five and national six' in the middle of the year." In any case, 2019 has passed and 2020 has arrived, and auto companies should figure out how to deal with the market plan for 2020. According to the China Automobile Circulation Association, the market decline in 2020 will continue to 2021.
