The reason for the recall of Beijing Mercedes-Benz is that the wiring harness under the second row of seats may not be routed in accordance with the regulations for vehicles within the scope of the recall. If the second row of seats is moved to the front to facilitate passengers to enter the third row of seats ("convenient access" function), the wire harness may be damaged and the normal operation of the airbags on the side of the second row of seats may be affected. And the system may not provide drivers with warnings to the driver that the second row of passengers are not wearing seat belts properly. In addition, if the second row of seats are not locked correctly after using the "easy access" function, the driver may not be warned and there is a safety hazard. Beijing Mercedes-Benz Automobile Co., Ltd. will inspect and adjust the wire harness under the second row of seats for vehicles in the recall area, and repair if the wire harness is damaged to eliminate safety risks.

Beijing Mercedes-Benz said the recall involved a total of 545 GLB SUV vehicles manufactured from June 24, 2019 to November 21, 2019, with immediate effect.
