According to the statistics of the Research Department of Power Battery Application Branch, the total installed capacity of power batteries in China in 2019 was about 62.2 GWh, an increase of 9.3% year-on-year. Among them, ternary batteries accounted for 65.2% of the total loading capacity, with a year-on-year cumulative increase of 22.5%; lithium iron phosphate battery loading capacity accumulated 20.2GWh, with a year-on-year cumulative decrease of 9.0%.
Specifically, the installed capacity of Ningde era power battery is 31.71GWh, accounting for 51.01% of the total installed capacity in 2019. In addition to Ningde era, the power battery enterprises ranked TOP 10 in 2019 are BYD (10.76GWh), Guoxuan High-tech (3.31GWh), Lishen (1.94GWh), Yiwei Lithium Energy (1.74GWh), AVIC Lithium Battery (1.49GWh), Fu Neng Technology (1.21GWh), Times SAIC (1.14GWh), BYK Battery (0.69GWh) and Xinwangda (0.65GWh).
Behind the huge installed capacity, in fact, is the year-on-year decline in sales of new energy vehicles. According to the data of China Automobile Association, the sales volume of new energy vehicles in 2019 was 1.206 million, down 4.0% year-on-year. Among them, the sales volume of pure electric vehicles was 972,000, down 1.2% year-on-year; the sales volume of plug-in hybrid electric vehicles was 232,000, down 14.5% year-on-year;
It is understood that in 2017, there were 155 power battery enterprises in China, but only 80 power battery production enterprises remained this year, of which only about 40 could truly realize the installed capacity. Industry insiders predict that less than 20 will survive in the next three years.
Among them, Waterma Battery Co., Ltd., once ranked among the top three, received the Civil Decision issued by Shenzhen Intermediate People's Court of Guangdong Province on November 15,2019, ruling that Huang Ziting, a natural person, applied for bankruptcy liquidation of Waterma.
Waterma was first established in 2002 and is one of the earliest enterprises in China to develop power batteries for new energy vehicles. In 2015, Waterma ranked fifth in the power battery market, second only to Ningde Times, BYD, Lishen and Guoxuan Gaoke. In 2016, Jianrui Fire bought Waterma for 5.2 billion yuan and renamed it Jianrui Voreng. In the second half of 2017, Waterma broke out debt crisis, with net profit of-3.734 billion yuan for the whole year, -3.945 billion yuan in 2018 and-2.617 billion yuan in the first three quarters of 2019.
According to statistics, Waterma has external debts of about 19.7 billion yuan and defaults on creditor's rights of 559 suppliers of about 5.4 billion yuan. Due to insolvency, Waterma finally declared bankruptcy.
In addition, Guoneng was also suspended in arrears in the first half of 2019. In November last year, two more power battery companies broke out in debt crisis one after another, among which the Bick battery was exploded and the capital chain had been broken, while Hubei Mengshi entered bankruptcy liquidation procedures.
Power battery market reshuffle intensified, Ningde era although occupied more than half of the share, but no longer alone.
BYD was one of the first companies to develop lithium iron phosphate power batteries, and its battery business was no worse than Ningde's. However, BYD's demand for battery business has been decreasing due to the influence of new energy subsidy fraud and subsidy decline.
Ningde era, which developed with ternary lithium battery, has successfully squeezed Panasonic and BYD, becoming the enterprise with the highest market share of power battery since 2017.
In June 2019, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology abolished the "Standard Conditions for Automotive Power Battery Industry", which means that Panasonic, LG Chemical, Samsung, etc. will return to the Chinese market, and the domestic power battery industry will officially usher in the era of "reshuffle".
Under the environment of speeding up "shuffling", Ningde era, BYD, etc. accelerated expansion.
BYD announced that it would establish a joint venture with Toyota after establishing a battery joint venture with Chang 'an Automobile; Ningde Times has reached cooperation with Honda, Hyundai, Toyota, Volvo, Volkswagen, Jaguar Land Rover, Peugeot Citroen, Daimler truck and bus to become its power battery supplier.
For the Ningde era, the crisis never went away. The new energy automobile market is changing rapidly, so is the power battery market. No one can say whether Ningde era, once a dominant one, can save the situation.
