French carmaker Renault Group officially announced its sales in 2019, with figures showing that Renault's cumulative global sales in 2019 reached 3.754 million vehicles, down 3.4 per cent from a year earlier. However, in terms of new energy vehicles, Renault's global electric vehicle market grew by 23.5% year-on-year to 62447 vehicles in 2019.

From the perspective of Renault's major car markets, cumulative sales in Europe reached 1.9458 million, up 1.3% from the same period last year, while those in France reached 698700, up 1.3% from the same period last year.

Cumulative sales in the US market reached 424500, down 2.9 per cent from a year earlier; sales in Africa, the Middle East, India and the Pacific reached 453000, down 19.3 per cent from a year earlier; and in China, Renault sales fell again, from 217000 in 2018 to 180000, down 17.1 per cent from 2018. Dongfeng Renault's cumulative sales in 2019 were only 18500, down 63 per cent from a year earlier, according to the Federation of passengers.

For now, the Chinese market is still a dilemma for Renault's sales growth, and of course Renault has never given up its layout of the Chinese market, even in an environment of declining sales. It is understood that Dongfeng Renault plans to launch a domestic model in the next three years, introduce an imported model, achieve the scale of 11 models on sale by 2022, and be fully electrified in 2025.

In addition, Renault also set up a joint venture with Jiangling New Energy in July last year. As an established French car company, Renault's cooperation with Jiangling mainly focuses on Jiangling's production qualifications, factories and sales channels. In addition, Renault has considerable sales in the European market, with ZE, ZOE, Twizy, KANGOO ZE and other pure electric vehicles, committed to the development of new energy vehicles into the current goal of Renault.

In addition, Renault and Nissan established an R & D company, Arions Automotive Research and Development (Shanghai) Co., Ltd., in April last year. The R & D company is mainly committed to the research and development of self-driving, intelligent networked vehicles and electric vehicles, and the results of research and development will be applied to the models sold by Renault Group and Nissan in China and around the world.

As can be seen from the above, the main purpose of Renault's many processes is to promote the development of Renault in the Chinese market. The Chinese market is not only the largest automobile market in the world, but also the largest market for new energy vehicles. At present, many automobile companies are committed to the development of the Chinese market, even in the case of a sharp decline in sales, they are still reluctant to give up such a big cake in the Chinese market, such as Shenlong Automobile, DS brand and so on.

At present, the Chinese market is in the cold winter season, and it is inevitable that most car companies can not stand the cold winter and eventually lead to a decline in sales. For a Renault which entered the Chinese market late, how to break the situation in the Chinese market in the new year has become a difficult problem for Renault. In the era of separation and struggle between the major joint venture brands and independent brands, Renault is facing great challenges.
