According to relevant statistics, the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration issued a total of 6.8097 million recalls in 2019, a sharp drop of 45.67 percent from the same period last year to a new low after 2016. however, the number of domestic car recalls still exceeded 10 million last year, affecting a wider number of car brands.

Judging from the recalls of various brand car companies, German and Japanese brands became the two cars with the largest number of recalls last year, although German and Japanese vehicles accounted for the vast majority of domestic car market sales, but still less than 70% of the recall share. Among them, five German brands, including BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Volkswagen, issued a total of 57 announcements, recalling a total of 3.326 million cars, accounting for nearly half. Japanese recalled a total of 1.393 million cars, accounting for about 20%; American models accounted for 10%, about 718000; independent brands accounted for 8%, about 606000, and the rest were occupied by Korean and French models.

According to the reasons for the recall, the cumulative recall of Takata airbags, shock absorbers, engines, fuel systems, electrical equipment and braking systems exceeded 6 million, accounting for nearly 90 per cent. The largest impact is still Takata airbags, accounting for about 20% of the total number of recalls. Seat belts and airbags have been the main body of the recall since 2016, of which seat belts have the greatest impact. The number of recalls of engines and braking systems in 2019 is also relatively large.

With the rise in the number of new energy vehicles, the number of vehicle recalls is also increasing. In 2019, the number of new energy vehicles recalled exceeded 33000, accounting for 0.5% of the total recall. Among them, a total of 4803 ES8 electric vehicles were recalled because of potential safety problems in their battery packs, becoming the first recall by a new car company. However, 6217 new energy vehicles were recalled due to power battery problems, accounting for 18.68% of the total recall of new energy vehicles in 2019.
