According to foreign media reports, due to the shortage of battery supplier LG Chemical, Mercedes-Benz EQC production halved from 60, 000 to 30, 000 in 2020. Daimler officially denied the media reports and said it would produce 50, 000 Mercedes-Benz EQC models by 2020.

At present, Daimler has two factories around the world to produce Mercedes-Benz EQC, of which the overseas version of Mercedes-Benz EQC is produced by Bremen, Germany, and the domestic version is produced by Beijing Mercedes-Benz Shunyi factory. It is understood that Daimler originally planned to sell 25000 vehicles in 2019, but ended up producing only 7, 000 due to a shortage of LG chemical batteries.

Although Daimler denied the media reports, it is undeniable that Mercedes-Benz's first electric car was indeed affected by battery supply, mainly because Daimler's battery supply was insufficient as a result of Tesla's acquisition of Grohmann Engineering.

Mercedes-Benz has always been a partner of Grohmann Engineering, and the two sides have a basis for cooperation, but since Tesla bought Grohmann Engineering, it has indirectly interrupted Mercedes-Benz's battery plans. Whether it plans to produce 30, 000 or 50, 000 cars in 2020, it is far from clear whether it will be able to meet its target, but Mercedes-Benz has been forced to cut production targets, which is probably just the beginning.

It is understood that Mercedes-Benz unveiled the new electric sub-brand EQ as early as 2016, while the EQC is the first all-electric model of the EQ brand and the first all-electric SUV of Mercedes-Benz. The car was officially unveiled at the 2019 Shanghai Auto Show and officially on November 8. The new car is based on the Generation EQ concept car unveiled at the Paris Auto Show and is basically the same in appearance as the overseas version, with a price of 57.98-622000 yuan. The length, width and height of the car body are 4774, 1923, and 1622 (1623) mm, respectively, and the wheelbase is 2873mm.

In terms of power, the new car uses an asynchronous motor for each of its front and rear axles, thus achieving a full-time all-wheel drive with a maximum power of 300kW (408hp), a peak torque of 730Nm and a 0-100km/h acceleration time of 5.1s. It is equipped with 79.2kWh capacity battery, and the comprehensive mileage of NEDC reaches 415km (408km).

Sales data show that Mercedes-Benz delivered 2.4563 million new cars in the global market in 2019, while Mercedes-Benz and smart brands set new sales records for the same period. In the Chinese market, Mercedes-Benz and smart brands sold 702100 vehicles, up 4% from the same period last year. Of this total, the Mercedes-Benz brand delivered 693500 new cars, an increase of 6.2% over the same period last year.

It is worth noting that despite record sales, Daimler's profits are not optimistic. Daimler issued its third profit warning in 2019, and earnings before interest and tax in 2019 are expected to fall by 50% to 5.6 billion euros (42.9 billion yuan) from 11.1 billion euros a year earlier, Reuters reported.
