AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)01/28 Report--

According to foreign media reports, there is new news that the car owner has repeatedly sued for problems with the gearbox of Ford's Fox and Carnival models. It is reported that Ford may agree to settle and then pay compensation for the eight-year lawsuit.

Ford has agreed to pay at least $30 million in damages and related matters, according to a document filed by Ford in California District Court. The specific compensation situation will be determined by the claims of different car owners. Secondly, the final decision on the proposed settlement will be made at the end of February.

Ford believes that the proposed settlement is within a reasonable scope and is therefore likely to be approved by the court, according to a Ford spokesman.

In fact, this problem has plagued Ford for years. It is understood that Ford Motor in 2012 to 2016 production of Fox models and 2011 to 2016 production of carnival models equipped with code-named DPS6 Powershift six-speed double clutch transmission, was frequently reflected by many owners of the fault, in the speed change when the car is prone to sudden tremor, side slip and other conditions, resulting in internal wear, slow deceleration, in some cases even sudden or delayed acceleration and so on. Some Fox owners even said that they could not cut into the forward gear because of the change of speed, so they backed up and drove home.

The number of vehicles involved reached about 2 million in the United States. in fact, some Ford owners reported this kind of situation in the domestic market. According to the owner, the occasional high speed did not go up, and the engine felt idling. After dragging for a period of time, there was a strange noise and no reverse gear, towed to the 4S store to quote nearly 20, 000.

There are media reports that Ford has long been aware of the defects of the gearbox and issued a technical service notice to dealers that the carnival's PowerShift gearbox may be affected by "loss of drive power, vibration, speed and poor throttle response," but still can not find a solution to the problem. So the extended warranty was introduced in 2014 to seven years / 100000 miles. In July of the same year, Changan Ford issued an announcement and decided to extend the vehicle warranty to five years or 160000 kilometers.

The problem is still not solved, with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration investigation, but still can not prove that the design has unreasonable safety risks, so it can not be controlled.

As the incident continued, Ford again announced on Aug. 14 that it would extend the warranty period for the 2014-2016 Focus and 2014-2015 Fiesta transmissions from 5 years / 60, 000 miles to 7 years / 100000 miles in response to complaints and lawsuits about DPS6 transmission failures. Moreover, among the vehicle users who extend the warranty period, the repair fee will be refunded to the owners who have repaired the transmission at their own expense.

Although some of Ford's models have been replaced and discontinued, there is still no new news in China because there are still many users of the models involved in the DPS6 variable box. As a multinational car company, consumers should be reasonably protected both at home and abroad, otherwise Ford's market performance in China will continue to be affected.
