Less than a month after the delivery of the Model 3 produced by Tesla in the Shanghai factory, the domestic battery supplier has been confirmed. At the Q4 earnings conference, Tesla revealed that he had reached a cooperation with South Korea's LG Chemical and China's Ningde Times to supply batteries for its Chinese-made electric cars.
Tesla also said that the battery supply cooperation with Ningde era will be further revealed in the "Battery Day" in April. To this end, Tesla stressed that the scale of the supply agreement with LG Chemical and Ningde era is relatively small, and Japan Panasonic has always been a long-term battery supplier to Tesla.
Tesla Shanghai Super Factory officially laid the foundation and started construction on January 7, 2019, and was completed and put into production in October. At the beginning of January 2020, the domestic Model 3 was officially delivered to Chinese users, and Tesla set a record for automobile manufacturing from factory establishment to delivery.
Song Gang, manufacturing director of Tesla's Shanghai plant, has revealed that the localization rate of parts at Tesla's Shanghai plant is about 30 per cent, which is planned to rise to 70 per cent by July 2020 and 100 per cent by the end of the year. This also means that domestic Model 3 must use power batteries provided by local suppliers in subsequent production.
In March 2019, Bloomberg reported that Tesla was in talks with Ningde Times on the supply of battery orders. In November, it was also reported that Tesla had reached a preliminary non-binding agreement with Ningde era, which would start supplying batteries to Tesla's Shanghai plant as early as 2020. Now the news has finally been confirmed.
The Model 3 standard battery life upgrade (made in China) costs 299050 yuan, with a range of 445km, a top speed of 225km / h, a 100km acceleration time of 5.6s and a basic driving assist function. After the future domestic Model 3 is equipped with the power battery provided by Ningde era, there may be room for further reduction in the price.
At present, the customers of Ningde era include the new power of car building, Lulai Automobile, as well as the global automakers Volkswagen, Daimler, BMW, PSA Group and so on.
According to the China Automotive Power Battery Industry Innovation Alliance, the number of power batteries installed in China was 62.2GWh in 2019, an increase of 9.2% over the same period last year. Among them, the number of vehicles installed in the Ningde era reached 31.46GWh, with a market share of 50.58%, while BYD installed 10.75GWh in 2019, with a market share of 17.28%.
After holding hands with many international automakers in the Ningde era, it chose to set up its first overseas factory in the German state of Thuringia. According to the plan, the production line of the Ningde era European plant includes cell and module products, which is expected to achieve 14GWh battery capacity by 2022. When completed, this project will become the largest lithium battery factory in Germany.
At present, the annual production capacity of Tesla Shanghai Super Factory has reached 150000. After assembling Ningde era power batteries in the future, it is possible to further reduce the price after completing the plan of localized production.
