Before the announcement of the retrograde policy on new energy subsidies, the website of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology released the latest issue of the "Public announcement on the preliminary Review of subsidy funds for the Promotion and Application of New Energy vehicles in 2016 and previous years" to liquidate the subsidies for new energy vehicles before 2016. this shows that nearly 100 car companies will share the central subsidy of 12.6 billion, of which BYD takes more than 1/5.

Coupled with the subsidies that have been issued before, the amount of subsidies granted by the central government to new energy vehicles has reached nearly 100 billion yuan.

The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has announced a total of six batches of subsidies for new energy vehicles. in this (sixth batch) announcement of subsidies, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology mainly calculates the declared subsidies for some new energy vehicles in 2016 and before, of which the number of models in 2015 was 29000, equivalent to about 3 billion of the subsidy; in 2016, there were 71000, equivalent to 9.58 billion of the subsidy.

BYD dabbled in new energy passenger cars and buses, so it received the highest subsidy, which will receive 2.689 billion yuan, accounting for 21.4% of the total. After that, Geely received a subsidy of 1.111 billion yuan, BAIC Foton received a total of 596 million yuan, Nanjing Jinlong received a subsidy of 581 million yuan, Zhuhai Guangtong 545 million yuan, BAIC shares 509 million yuan, and so on.

It is not for enterprises to apply for subsidies, according to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, a small number of vehicles do not pass the standard examination, so they are not eligible for subsidies. However, there are some problems with the consistency of product declaration, which will also affect the audit.

So far, a total of more than 700000 new energy vehicles have received central subsidies, totaling 96 billion yuan. Here, only some vehicles and the list of new energy subsidies before 2017 have been publicized, and the subsidies in 2017 and beyond have not yet been formally implemented, and the specific amount of subsidies here will be even higher.

According to statistics, China's sales of new energy vehicles in 2017 were 770000, while those in 2018 soared by 1.256 million, an increase of 62 per cent over the same period last year.

It is worth noting that the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has only counted the central government's subsidies for new energy vehicles, and if local subsidies are added, the amount is likely to double.

In the future, it will be more difficult for car companies to get new energy subsidies because of the accelerated decline of subsidies and strict application and examination conditions. In addition, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology also indicated that it has launched the industry planning for new energy vehicles in 2035 to promote the high-quality development of the new energy vehicle industry. The improvement of the policy is also conducive to the healthy development of the new energy vehicle industry and realize "corner overtaking".
