As Toyota Group and Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance announced global sales in 2019, the top three rankings were also officially released, Volkswagen Group locked in 2019 global sales champion, ranking first for four consecutive years.

Volkswagen Group: 10.9746 million

According to official figures from Volkswagen Group, Volkswagen Group's global sales reached 10.9746 million vehicles in 2019, an increase of 1.3% year-on-year and a new high for the group. China remains the world's largest single market for Volkswagen, contributing nearly 40 per cent of sales.

In terms of major brands, only Skoda and Volkswagen commercial vehicle sales have declined under the Volkswagen Group. The Volkswagen brand sold 6.28 million vehicles, a slight increase of 0.5%. The Audi brand sold 1.8456 million vehicles, up 1.8 per cent from a year earlier. Porsche sold 280800 vehicles worldwide, up 9.6 per cent. Sales in Seattle rose 10.9 per cent to 574100. Skoda's sales fell 0.9% year-on-year to 1.243 million vehicles. MAN and Scania grew by 4.6 per cent and 3.1 per cent, respectively.

In the Chinese market, Volkswagen's overall sales reached 4.2336 million vehicles, a slight increase of 0.6% over the same period last year, accounting for 38.6% of Volkswagen's global sales, or nearly 40%.

It is worth noting that Volkswagen sold 3.1632 million vehicles in China in 2019, accounting for 50.38% of the brand's total global sales. Audi sold 690000 vehicles in China, accounting for 37.4% of Audi's total global sales.

In the rest of the market, Volkswagen sold 4.5528 million vehicles in Europe, up 3.9 per cent from a year earlier, of which 1.364 million were sold in Germany, up 6.2 per cent from a year earlier. In North America, Volkswagen sold 951500 vehicles, down 0.5 per cent from a year earlier, of which 654200 were sold in the US, up 2.5 per cent from a year earlier. Volkswagen sold 608600 vehicles in South America, up 3.2% from a year earlier, mainly driven by the Brazilian market.

Toyota Group: 10.7421 million vehicles

Global sales figures released by Toyota Group in 2019, including its Toyota, Lexus, Daihatsu and Hino brands, sold a total of 10.7421 million vehicles worldwide, up 1.4% from a year earlier. Of this total, Toyota and Lexus sold a total of 9.7143 million vehicles, up 1.8 per cent from a year earlier.

The US is Toyota's largest single market, with annual sales of 2.383 million vehicles, down 1.8 per cent. China surpassed Japan to become the second largest single market of Toyota Group, with annual sales of 1.62 million vehicles, an increase of 9% over the same period last year, driven by the growth of Toyota brand and Lexus sales. Sales in Japan ranked third, with 1.61 million vehicles up 2.9 per cent.

Across Europe, Toyota sold 1.0516 million vehicles, up 4.6% from a year earlier, with growth in the UK, Italy, France and Germany.

Renault Nissan Mitsubishi Alliance: 10.1552 million vehicles

The alliance of French car giant Renault, Nissan and Mitsubishi Motors sold a total of 10.1552 million vehicles in 2019, down 5.6% from the previous year, from second to third in the world.

In terms of alliance sales, Nissan's global sales fell 8.4% year-on-year to 5.1762 million vehicles. Renault sales fell 3.4 per cent to 3.7537 million. Mitsubishi sold 1.2253 million cars, up 0.5 per cent from a year earlier.

Nissan's sales in Europe, the United States and Japan have fallen sharply, and its image has been tarnished by a series of problems such as the Carlos Ghosn incident, financial scandals and internal struggle for power, the former chairman who fled to Lebanon during bail.

As the U. S. General Motors and other manufacturers have not yet released full-year data, so there is no final ranking. GM's global sales figures for the January-September period were 5.68 million vehicles, which is expected to be less than Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance.

For the rest of the carmakers, Hyundai Motor Group sold 7.19 million vehicles, Honda 5.178 million, down 1.1%, Suzuki 3.0068 million, down 9.8%, and Mazda 1.4978 million, down 7.2%.
