On the morning of Feb. 5, Ford announced its 2019 results, which showed full-year operating income of $155.9 billion in 2019, down 3% from a year earlier, and Ford's net profit of $47 million in 2019, down 98.7% from $3.7 billion in 2018.
According to Ford's financial results, full-year operating income in 2019 was $155.9 billion, which was not much lower than that in 2018, but net profit lost nearly 99%. This is mainly due to UAW's new contract costs, warranty costs, and problems with the launch of the redesigned Explorer and Aviator.
Ford is not satisfactory in the Chinese market, which is a drag on Ford. In 2019, Ford lost $717 million in the Chinese market, including a loss of 200 million yuan in the fourth quarter, and its market share fell from 2.3% to 2%.
In recent years, Ford's sense of existence in the domestic market is getting lower and lower, whether Changan Ford, Jiangling Ford or Lincoln brand, the performance in the market is more or less unsatisfactory.
It is understood that Ford's global sales in 2019 were 4.9 million vehicles, down 7.7% from the same period last year. Among them, in the Chinese market, Ford sold 567854 vehicles for the whole year, down 26.1 per cent.
There has been no significant improvement in Ford's sales performance in the Chinese market, mainly because there are not enough new cars to pry the market, relying only on old models to maintain sales. At the same time, looking back at the major automobile brands, continue to launch new cars to increase market share and product strength, and strengthen competitive advantage.
However, Ford is aware of its plight in China and is trying to improve it. In the second half of 2019, Ford has begun to upgrade its models one after another, and launched several new models to help the development of the Chinese market.
According to the Ford China Product 330 Plan, Ford China will launch more than 30 new models in the Chinese market in the next three years, covering Ford and Lincoln brands, as well as 10 new energy models. In 2020, Ford explorers will be domestically made in Changan Ford, and medium and large-sized SUV of Lincoln brand will also be made domestically, among which Changan Lincoln adventurers will be put on the market in the first quarter of 2020.
In response to its 2020 results, Ford said in December that its pre-tax loss in China in 2020 would be nearly half that in 2019 and could further improve its performance in China in 2021.
