Under the influence of the epidemic, all kinds of enterprises across the country entered the resumption stage since February 10, while the automobile manufacturing industry was delayed due to the relatively slow supply of parts. GM said it would resume production in mainland China from Feb. 15, Reuters reported today, and that plans for the resumption of production at local joint venture plants would be based on the readiness of supply chains and product inventories.

SAIC GM was founded in June 1997. At present, it has four production bases of Pudong Jinqiao, Yantai Dongyue, Shenyang Beisheng and Wuhan Branch. It has 9 complete vehicle production plants and 4 powertrain plants, mainly producing Buick, Chevrolet and Cadillac brand models.

On February 10, only a small number of automobile enterprises have resumed production. Tesla Shanghai factory and SAIC Volkswagen started some production factories in October. Tesla's Shanghai plant allegedly requires multiple inspections before employees enter the plant. SAIC Volkswagen resumed work on February 10 according to the original plan, started the first production work after the New Year holiday, and also carried out epidemic prevention and control work as required.

For this reason, SAIC Volkswagen said to the outside world that it has set up about 500 volunteer teams. According to the company's epidemic prevention and control measures and resumption of work needs, there are 6 teams distributed in scene simulation, temperature measurement, employee parking lot guidance, shuttle bus and canteen management, psychological counseling and other work. SAIC Volkswagen epidemic prevention and control support personnel said that the company adjusted the dining hall table and chair placement, advocated personnel to eat at different times, the restaurant can accept one fifth of the original number of people to eat.

Many automobile enterprises continue to postpone the resumption of work, including Dongfeng Honda, Toyota China joint venture factory, Brilliance BMW, Hyundai Kia automobile joint venture factory and so on are still in production suspension state, they all said they will resume production on February 17.

Toyota said it decided to extend the shutdown of all Chinese factories, taking into account local and regional government guidelines on the epidemic, as well as local logistics, parts procurement and other circumstances. Toyota has set up 6 vehicle factories and 4 engine factories in Tianjin, Chengdu, Changchun and Guangzhou.

At the beginning of production, automobile manufacturers can only produce small quantities due to tight parts supply, or use inventory parts for production during supply shortages. However, for most automakers, the shortage of supply has to delay the resumption of work plan, which has hit the performance of each automaker.

Some auto industry analysts said that China's auto sales in February were expected to achieve positive year-on-year growth, but affected by the new crown pneumonia epidemic, sales may fall by more than half. The Spring Festival holiday in 2019 is in February, with a low base. The industry originally judged that China's car sales in February 2020 could end more than ten consecutive months of negative growth, but the new crown pneumonia epidemic broke this expectation.

Cui Dongshu, secretary-general of the Association, said that affected by the epidemic, the decline in the auto market in January and February this year may exceed 25%.
