Nissan has been humiliated by a series of incidents involving former chairman Carlos Ghosn. According to the latest news from foreign media, Nissan has formally filed a civil suit against Ghosn in Yokohama District Court in Japan, asking Ghosn to compensate Ghosn 10 billion yen (about 634 million yuan).

Nissan has filed other civil charges against Ghosn, including recovering losses to Nissan and repaying huge amounts of underreported income and bonuses.

According to Japanese media reports, the main reason for Nissan's complaint against Ghosn is his long-term misconduct, which has caused huge losses to the company. Nissan said the results of the investigation showed that the actual loss caused by Ghosn's misconduct was more than 35 billion yen. In addition, Ghosn's misconduct included illegal spending of company funds, free use of overseas homes and private use of the company's jets.

Nissan said in a statement that it had stepped up its efforts to recover damages from Ghosn after Ghosn's illegal escape. Nissan will also reserve the right to be held responsible for the damage and financial losses caused by Ghosn's personal remarks to Nissan.

As the head of Renault, Nissan and the alliance, Carlos Ghosn's "dictatorship" made Nissan unhappy. After arriving at Tokyo Airport in November 2018, Ghosn was arrested by the Special search Department of the Tokyo District Prosecutor's Office. Ghosn has been detained by Japan because he is accused of a number of crimes, including undisclosed huge salaries and misappropriation of Nissan funds to buy real estate bonds and stocks for individuals. Ghosn's financial scandal can be said to be based on secret investigations and reports within Nissan, and shortly after Ghosn's arrest, Nissan issued an official statement accusing Ghosn of a series of wrongdoing.

In the meantime, Ghosn has been removed from all his posts. Ghosn was released on bail after paying a deposit of 1 billion yen in March 2019, was arrested for the fourth time on April 4 of the same year, and was released on bail again after paying a deposit of 500 million yen on April 25. Ghosn was grounded in his Japanese apartment and was closely monitored by the Japanese side until he was tried in Japan in April 2020.

But at the end of 2019, Ghosn escaped from Japan and went to Lebanon with the help of security personnel led by former members of the United States Army Special Forces. After Ghosn regained his freedom, he publicly criticized Japan's judicial system many times, saying: "take guilt as the premise and ignore basic human rights."

On January 8, 2020, Ghosn held a press conference in the Lebanese capital Beirut, accusing Nissan of colluding with Japanese officials. The Tokyo district attorney's office responded that Ghosn accused him of colluding with Nissan, which led to Ghosn's arrest, and said prosecutors were seeking to bring Ghosn back to Japan for trial.

Ghosn has Brazilian, French and Lebanese nationality, it is legal to enter and live in Lebanon, and there is no extradition treaty between Lebanon and Japan, so Lebanon will not extradite Ghosn back to China for examination at the request of Japan. At the same time, according to Lebanese law, Lebanese citizens who are suspected of committing crimes have the right to stand trial in their own country.

In addition, according to Lebanese judicial sources, Ghosn, the former chairman of Nissan, issued a travel ban in Lebanon, China Daily reported on January 9, citing AFP.

Ghosn also sued Nissan and Mitsubishi in a Dutch court, accusing Nissan and Mitsubishi of "wrongful dismissal", demanding the release of internal documents and demanding 15 million euros (114 million yuan) in compensation from Nissan-Mitsubishi.

Nissan has also suffered losses from the "chaos" within Nissan after Mr Ghosn's alleged financial scandal, while Nissan is struggling to make a profit as global sales decline. According to the results, Nissan posted a net loss of 26.1 billion yen in the third quarter (September-December 2019), the first quarterly loss in more than a decade, adding more pressure on former chairman Ghosn's efforts to rebuild the company after stepping down.
