AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)02/13 Report--
Affected by the Lunar New year holiday and the pneumonia epidemic, automakers have stopped production and sales activities, leading to a dismal start to 2020, a blow to performance is inevitable. A few days ago, the two major independent car brands released January sales data, Geely and Great Wall sales fell by nearly 30% in January.
Geely officially released the latest sales figures, with total sales of 111800 vehicles in January, down 14% from the previous month and 29% from a year earlier. Among them, Geely's domestic sales were 109600, down 28% from the same period last year.
Geely just met its sales target of 1.36 million vehicles in 2019 and has a plan to sell 1.41 million vehicles in 2020. Geely achieved 8% of its full-year target after a decline in sales in the first month.
In terms of models, Geely sold a total of 41900 cars in January and 68800 SUV series, of which Boyue, Dihao GS and colorful Yue sold more than 10,000 cars. Geely sold 4762 new energy vehicles in January. Sales of the Lock brand have stabilized, with sales of 9008 vehicles in January and have launched 01, 02, 03 and their derivative models so far.
Affected by the outbreak, Geely's new compact SUV icon was scheduled to be officially launched on Feb. 14, but officials have postponed the launch and cancelled the launch event to an online launch.
Great Wall is the second-largest independent brand in China after Geely, and its January sales were also not as expected. KuaiBao showed that the four major brands sold a total of 80261 vehicles in January, down 28.16% from a year earlier.
Among them, the Harvard brand, which is the main sales force, sold 58720 vehicles in January, down 31.8% from a year earlier. H6, M6 and F7 are still Harvard models. High-end brand WEY sold 6395 vehicles in January, down 37% from a year earlier, with all four models showing lacklustre market performance. The Euler brand has plummeted to 1300 vehicles, and the new energy sector is not as expected. The market performance of Great Wall gunner trucks is good, with sales of 5551 units in January.
Sales of Great Wall cars reached 1.06 million in 2019, exceeding one million for four consecutive years. With a decline in sales in the first month of 2020 and restrictions on production and sales in February, Great Wall could face the challenge of falling below the red line throughout the year.
According to the statistics of the China Automobile Association, China's automobile production and sales in the first month were 1.783 million and 1.941 million respectively, down 33.5% and 27.0% respectively from the previous month, and 24.6% and 18.0% respectively from the same period last year. The decline in the data is mainly due to the reduction of effective working days during the Spring Festival holiday in January this year; in addition, due to the continued impact of the COVID-19 epidemic, the holiday has been extended to limited production and marketing. Coupled with the automobile industry is not as expected, Geely Motor, Great Wall Motor sales decline in the first month than the market as a whole, the performance is on the low side.
The pneumonia epidemic infected by novel coronavirus continued to affect the automobile industry, and it became more serious after February, with automakers and dealers postponing their plans to return to work, causing a big blow to the performance of the month. Under the adverse environment of the car market and other factors, the overall decline in production and sales of the automobile industry this year is worrying.
