According to the official explanation, when some vehicles within the scope of this recall are exposed to high corrosion environment such as strong deicing salt for a long time, the bolts that fix the steering motor on the steering gear housing may be corroded and broken, resulting in the displacement of the steering motor and the skidding of the transmission belt, resulting in the weakening or loss of steering power, which may increase the risk of vehicle collision and exist safety risks.

Tesla Automobile (Beijing) Co., Ltd. will replace new steering gear steel bolts free of charge for vehicles within the recall scope, and add anti-corrosion coating on the steering gear motor shell and motor fixing bolts; if fixed bolts are found to be damaged or damaged during disassembly, the steering gear will be replaced free of charge to eliminate safety risks.

The corrosion problem of Tesla bolts has existed for a long time. As early as March 2018, Tesla recalled 123000 Model S vehicles produced before April 2016. the problem parts were also bolts between the steering gear and the motor.
