AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)02/14 Report--

The annual reliability ranking of J.D.Power, a market research and data analysis service that collects data from three-year-old cars every year, is one of the industry's leading market research companies. How credible do you think is this 2020 automobile reliability research report?

According to the 2020 vehicle reliability study released by J.D.Power, Hyundai's luxury brand Genesis surpassed Lexus to become the brand with the highest reliability ranking. In addition to the above ranking of the two brands, including Buick, Porsche, Toyota, Volkswagen and other 14 auto brands, are above the industry average. The bottom three brands are Jaguar, Chrysler and Land Rover.

In the report, J.D.Power said it conducted a survey of 36555 owners of 2017 vehicles in the US market to count the problems encountered by owners in using their vehicles in the past, and finally used the number of problems per 2017 vehicles (PP100) as a measure of reliability. In other words, the lower the score, the higher the ranking, which means that the number of vehicle failures in the survey is lower.

In this year's report, the industry average of 134 problems per 100 vehicles for all brands, down 2 from last year's survey, which is the best result in the 31 years since the J.D.Power ranking was released. Dave Sargent, global head of automotive operations at J.D. Power, said, "cars that are now three years old are of better quality and higher reliability than before. However, with the rapid introduction of more and more technologies, it also brings some pressure to the reliability of vehicles.

Hyundai's luxury brand Genesis topped the list with 89 points and 89 problems per 100 cars, making it the only brand on the list below 100. Genisse has not officially launched sales in China, but officials are ready to enter the Chinese market within this year. Sales of Genisys also increased in the United States, with cumulative sales of 21233 vehicles in 2019, an increase of 106 percent over the same period last year, ranking 12th among all luxury brands sold in the United States, below Jaguar's 31051.

Lexus performed steadily, ranking second in reliability in the survey, with a score of 100, down six from last year. Last year, Lexus sold 298114 vehicles in the United States, ranking third among luxury brands. It is worth mentioning that according to this year's report, the number of problems with the Lexus ES is 52 PP100, which is the most reliable of all models.

GM's Buick brand ranked third with a score of 103, up two places from last year and the highest reliability ranking among ordinary brands.

Other brands above the industry average are Porsche (104), Toyota (113), Volkswagen (116), Lincoln (119), BMW (123), Chevrolet (123), Ford (126), Mazda (130), Cadillac (131), Hyundai (132) and Kia (132), a total of 14 brands.

Ford, Lincoln, Mazda and Cadillac brands have made remarkable progress, all below average last year and above average this year. The number of Ford problems decreased by 20 compared with last year, Lincoln by 28, Mazda by 29 and Cadillac by 35.

Finally, of course, we have to list the biggest and most unreliable brands. British luxury brand Land Rover ranked at the bottom, with 220 problems, well above the industry average. In fact, it is not surprising that Land Rover appears at the back of the list. after all, many of the jokes circulating online are also based on the quality and reliability of Land Rover.

Chrysler ranked second from the bottom with 214 questions, while Jaguar entered the least reliable list with 186. The reliability ranking of the Volvo brand owned by Geely Holdings has not been ideal, with 185 problems counted in this year's report, 19 fewer than last year and fourth from the bottom.

It is worth noting that Tesla did not appear on the list because J.D. Power needs the consent of the manufacturer to contact the car owner for data collection, and Tesla did not give permission.

Automobile reliability is one of the important indicators for consumers to choose to buy a car. The reliability level shows the performance of the vehicle and the probability of causing trouble to the owner due to problems and maintenance. The reliability of the vehicle will seriously affect users' satisfaction with the car for many years, and the value preservation rate will be seriously affected when preparing to replace the vehicle. The investigation report will be a good reference.
