On February 13th, IIHS released a list of the first TOP Safety Picks (best safety) and Top Safety Picks Plus+ (best safety plus) models in 2020, including 64 TOP Safety Picks models and 23 Top Safety Picks Plus+ models.

The best safe car in 2020 must have a "good (Good)" rating, a good vehicle / human-vehicle collision prevention system, and a good lighting system in all six crash resistance assessments. In addition, good headlights and available front collision prevention are required to obtain advanced or higher ratings in car-to-car and vehicle-to-pedestrian evaluations.

Taking a specific look at the models on this year's list, the "best safety" models include Honda Accord, Honda CR-V, Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla, Toyota RAV4, Volvo XC40, Volvo S60, Lexus RX, Lexus UX, BMW 3-Series and Audi A7.

The best safety plus models include Toyota Camry, Lexus ES, Lexus NX, Mercedes-Benz GLE, Mercedes-Benz C-Class, Tesla Model 3, Audi A6, Cadillac XT-6 and Subaru Forest Man.

IIHS also highlighted the excellent performance of Mazda and Hyundai brands. Mazda has the largest number of "Best Safety Plus" models, including Mazda 3 (including hatchback / hatchback), Mazda 6 (domestic Atez), Mazda CX-5 and Mazda CX-3. Hyundai, including Kia and Genisse, also has a number of models on the "best safety" list.

It is worth noting that Volkswagen of Germany, which is selling well in the Chinese market, is not on the list of models published by IIHS. Volkswagen in Germany has always been known for its safety performance, and its safety quality has been called into question since Passat crashed in PICC last year.
