A few days ago, brilliance BMW and BMW (China) Automobile Trading Co., Ltd. filed the recall plan with the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration in accordance with the requirements of the regulations on the recall of defective Automobile products and the measures for the implementation of the regulations on the recall of defective Automobile products. It is decided that some domestic and imported 1999-2006 3-series cars will be recalled again from May 1, 2020.

Recall models:

(1) brilliance BMW Co., Ltd. recalled some domestic brilliance BMW 318i and 325i vehicles produced from July 11, 2003 to May 18, 2005, a total of 4193 vehicles.

(2) BMW (China) Automobile Trading Co., Ltd. recalled a total of 634 imported BMW 318i, 325i, 328i and 330i vehicles produced between November 18, 1999 and February 23, 2006.

Reasons for recall:

When the vehicles left the factory within the scope of this recall, the front passenger side airbags were equipped with an ammonium nitrate gas generator without desiccant produced by Takata Company. During the deployment of the airbag, the gas generator of the airbag may be abnormally damaged, resulting in debris flying out, injuring the people in the car, and there is a safety hidden danger. The vehicles were recalled in 2013 and 2014, but in view of Takata's phased analysis of the issue at that time, the recalled airbags were still equipped with an ammonium nitrate gas generator without desiccant produced by Takata. Therefore, although the safe service life of the newly replaced airbag at that time has been extended, the above risk still exists after being used in a high temperature and high humidity environment for a long time.

Solution:

Brilliance BMW Co., Ltd. and BMW (China) Automobile Trading Co., Ltd. will replace the front passenger side airbags with more stable agents (guanidine nitrate) free of charge for vehicles within the recall to eliminate safety risks.
