AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)02/27 Report--

BMW has twice announced a recall of its old 3-Series models, dating back to the 1998 3-Series models, which are now collectible. Consumers are more concerned about whether these recalled 3-series models are still there today.

According to the recall plan filed by BMW China and brilliance with the State Administration of Market Supervision and Administration, the company will recall some domestic and imported 1999-2006 3-series cars from May 1, 2020.

The models involved include:

(1) A total of 634 BMW 318i, 325i, 328i and 330i vehicles were imported during the period from November 18, 1999 to February 23, 2006.

(2) some domestic brilliance BMW 318i and 325i vehicles produced during the period from July 11, 2003 to May 18, 2005, totaling 4193.

The specific reason is that when these vehicles left the factory, the front passenger side airbags were equipped with an ammonium nitrate gas generator without desiccant produced by Takata. During the deployment of the airbag, the gas generator of the airbag may be abnormally damaged, resulting in debris flying out, injuring the people in the car, and there is a safety hidden danger. BMW will replace the front passenger side airbag with a more stable agent (guanidine nitrate) free of charge to eliminate safety risks.

BMW added that the vehicles were recalled in 2013 and 2014, but in view of Takata's phased analysis of the issue at that time, the recalled airbags were still equipped with an ammonium nitrate gas generator without desiccant produced by Takata. Therefore, although the safe service life of the newly replaced airbag at that time has been extended, the above risk still exists after being used in a high temperature and high humidity environment for a long time. So choose to recall and replace again.

In addition, on January 7, 2020, BMW also recalled some of the old 3-Series models due to airbag problems, including imported 3-Series models in 1998 and 2000. According to the announcement, BMW China will recall a total of 14 imported BMW 318i, 323i and 328i vehicles (E36) from July 1, 1998 to April 28, 2000.

The vehicle within the scope of this recall is due to defects made by the supplier of the airbag, the NADI gas generator for the driver's airbag is incomplete, and its internal medicament may be damp and deteriorate after long-term use in a high humidity environment, and the airbag gas generator may be abnormally damaged when the airbag is unfolded, causing debris to fly out, injuring the personnel inside the vehicle, and there are hidden dangers.

As a result, BMW will overhaul its vehicles free of charge to eliminate safety risks. At the same time, BMW will also provide options for users to buy back vehicles.

It is rare in the industry to recall cars made two decades ago and offer official buyback programs, and BMW's move also provides a reference for other carmakers to recall defects.

Such age does make it possible that these cars have been scrapped, so netizens are more concerned about whether these vehicles are still there today.
