AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)02/27 Report--
Toyota Motor said on Feb.26 that operations at its Japanese plants could be affected by supply chain disruptions in the coming weeks as the new coronavirus epidemic worsens globally.
As some factories in China are still unable to resume production and transportation, Toyota's local factories may be affected by China's parts supply chain. A Toyota spokesman said: "We can still receive parts through China at this time, but we will evaluate the situation after the week of March 2." After maintaining normal production capacity during the week of March 2, the company said it would decide how to continue operations at its Japanese plant during the week of March 9.
In mainland China, Toyota has four complete vehicle factories located in Guangzhou, Changchun, Tianjin and Chengdu. Toyota's factories in Guangzhou and Changchun resumed work on February 17, Tianjin on February 18 and Chengdu on February 24, according to previous reports.
Japan is Toyota's most important production base. Toyota has 16 complete vehicle and parts manufacturing plants. In 2019, the company sold 10.7 million vehicles, nearly half of which were produced in Japan.
In addition to Toyota, Nissan is also affected by a shortage of parts supply. Nissan closed some production lines in Kyushu, southwestern Japan, on February 14 and 17, and other plants in Japan will also suspend production on February 23. In addition, factories in Malaysia, the United States, Mexico, the United Kingdom and other places may further endanger production due to supply chain disruptions. As for when to resume work, there is still no specific plan, so it is still difficult to resume production in a short time.
The outbreak in China has affected the upper and lower reaches of the automobile industry to varying degrees. Honda, Toyota, Nissan, Mitsubishi and Mazda have delayed the production of some factories in China, but at present only Nissan has suspended its local business in Japan due to shortage of parts.
