Toyota's two joint ventures in China are speeding up the construction of new energy vehicle production lines and plants. FAW Toyota is planning to build a new energy vehicle plant in Tianjin with an annual capacity of 200000 vehicles, which will cover a complete production process, including batteries, with a total investment of nearly 8.5 billion yuan, according to media reports. According to Tianjin's plan, the project will make significant progress by the end of 2020.
FAW Toyota sources revealed that "the new model that the new plant will put into production in the future is a new new energy model outside the Toyota TNGA structure." It is understood that FAW Toyota's new energy vehicle factory is located in the Ecological City of Tianjin Binhai New area, with an annual output of 200000 new energy passenger vehicles with a total investment of 8.495 billion yuan, covering six major process planning, including stamping, welding, painting, final assembly, resin painting and battery, as well as logistics planning, corresponding automation, IT, civil engineering and other supporting facilities. The project is still in the preparatory stage, and the enterprise is still in the process of further demonstration and planning of the project.
In fact, GAC Toyota is also planning to build a new energy vehicle production line (the fourth production line) with an annual capacity of 200000 vehicles. According to the documents, the fourth production line of Guangzhou Auto Toyota is scheduled to be completed in September 2020 and put into production in March 2021, with three pure electric models planned in advance, namely the C-HR EV, the pure electric large-scale SUV and the pure electric MPV. At the same time, the project will add 3500 employees and the total investment will reach 4.988 billion yuan.
Toyota's two joint ventures in China, FAW Toyota and Guangzhou Automobile Toyota, are expected to speed up the construction of new energy vehicle plants and production lines, which are expected to further promote Toyota's new energy vehicle program in China, while meeting market demand and new energy points requirements.
In September 2019, Toyota successively reached strategic cooperation with Guangzhou Automobile and FAW, and the two sides planned to comprehensively promote new energy vehicles and energy-efficient vehicle products. In the announcement of deepening strategic cooperation framework agreement issued on September 26th, GAC GROUP showed that he had reached comprehensive technical cooperation with Toyota, including installing FC (fuel cell) technology on the models of GAC and GAC Toyota, expanding the scope of HEV (hybrid electric vehicle) cooperation, promoting the development of EV (electric vehicle) models, jointly researching and improving the basic technology of electric vehicles, and continuously reducing the cost of core components.
According to Toyota's plan, Toyota will introduce 10 electric models to China by 2025.
In addition, in November 2019, Toyota signed a joint venture agreement with BYD on the establishment of a pure electric vehicle research and development company, which will be formally established in 2020. The two sides jointly carry out pure electric vehicles and vehicle platform, parts design and R & D and other related business.
It means that Toyota is accelerating in terms of electrification.
Toyota sold 1.62 million vehicles in China in 2019, up 9 per cent from a year earlier, according to data. FAW Toyota sold 738000 vehicles in 2019, up 2% from the same period last year, while Guangzhou Auto Toyota sold 682000 vehicles in 2019, up 17.6% from the same period last year.
