On February 27th, Toyota released its latest production and sales figures, which showed that Toyota's global production and sales in January 2020 were 713000 and 732000, respectively, down 6.1 per cent and 1.4 per cent from a year earlier.

In terms of region, the US market is Toyota's largest single market, and compared with other markets, the US market did well for Toyota in January. In contrast to the two major Asian markets, Toyota has declined to varying degrees in its home market in Japan and China, with a 5 per cent year-on-year decline to 112000 vehicles in Japan and 1.2 per cent to 145000 vehicles in China.

Affected by the epidemic, Toyota's performance in the Chinese market is slightly bad, but compared with other car companies, Toyota is still less affected by the Spring Festival holiday and the epidemic. Toyota has two joint ventures in China, of which FAW Toyota sold 62653 vehicles in January, roughly the same as the same period last year. Guangzhou Auto Toyota sold 67980 vehicles in January, up 1.6 per cent from a year earlier.

In addition, Toyota also reported sales of its luxury brand Lexus, which sold 53000 vehicles worldwide in January, down 0.3% from a year earlier, with Asia falling 14.7% to 16000 and North America up 12.5% to 21000.

At present, Chinese and foreign car companies still face many challenges in the development of the Chinese market, even Toyota, which ranks second. Toyota said on Wednesday that in the coming weeks, as the novel coronavirus epidemic worsened around the world, some domestic factories were still unable to resume production and transportation, which may be affected by the Chinese parts supply chain. the operations of its local factories may be affected by supply chain disruptions.

However, despite the impact of the epidemic in China, Toyota remains optimistic about the 2020 fiscal year. Toyota said its global car sales would reach 10.73 million in the fiscal year ending March, slightly higher than the previous estimate of 10.7 million, and sales of 29.5 trillion yen (1.87 trillion yuan) in fiscal year 2020. Operating profit rose from 2.47 trillion yen to 2.5 trillion yen, pre-tax income of 2.91 trillion yen and net profit of 2.35 trillion yen (158.8 billion yuan).
