Specifically, by the end of 2019, there were 261.5 million civilian vehicles (including 7.62 million three-wheeled vehicles and low-speed trucks) nationwide, an increase of 21.22 million compared with the end of last year. By the end of 2019, the number of private cars was 226.35 million, an increase of 19.05 million compared with the end of last year; the number of civilian cars was 146.44 million, an increase of 11.93 million, including 137.01 million private cars, an increase of 11.12 million.

In addition, the number of people who have applied for driving licenses in our country has reached 435 million. According to data from the Ministry of Public Security, the number of motor vehicle drivers nationwide reached 435 million in 2019, including 397 million car drivers; in 2019, the number of newly licensed drivers (driving for less than one year) reached 29.43 million.

By the end of 2019, China's 14 provinces had more than 10 million motor vehicles and 66 cities had more than one million cars, according to the Ministry of Public Security. According to a report released by the World Bank, by the end of 2019, China had 173 cars per 1000 people, compared with 837 cars per thousand people in the United States, 4.8 times that of China. There is a certain gap between China's car ownership per thousand people and developed countries such as Europe and America, and it also lags behind developing countries such as Brazil, Mexico and Iran.
