According to the data, Gu Junli graduated from Tsinghua University and the University of Illinois in the United States. from 2012 to 2016, he served as the chief engineer of the international chip giant AMD, where he was responsible for the research and development of big data and deep learning software. in February 2016, he joined Tesla to set up Tesla's machine learning team, developed Autopilot 2.0 products and realized large-scale deployment on multi-generation Tesla vehicles. On October 23, 2017, Xiaopeng announced that Gu Junli had been appointed vice president of self-driving research and development of Xiaopeng Automobile, reporting directly to he Xiaopeng, chairman of Xiaopeng Automobile.

For Gu Junli's departure, Xiaopeng said that the company will not affect the normal operation of the entire department or the original business because of personal departure.

For Xiaopeng Automobile and other new car-building forces, poaching Tesla is indeed one of the shortcuts to make up for the current technical defects. In December 2018, Wu Xinzhou, head of Qualcomm self-driving, joined Xiaopeng as vice president of self-driving and rated Gu Junli, but the latter had to report to the former in business. Next, Wu Xinzhou will fully take over Gu Junli.
