According to passenger car data released by the Federation of passengers in February, it fell by 80% compared with the same period last year, meaning that both the fuel vehicle market and the new energy vehicle market have suffered a setback.

Recently, the Research Department of the Power Battery Application Branch released the latest production and marketing of new energy vehicles. According to its monthly database of power batteries, China produced only 12000 new energy vehicles in February this year, down 77% from the same period last year. As a result, the installed capacity of power batteries also dropped 73% to 0.60GWh.

This also shows that the production of 40, 000 vehicles of new energy is much lower than in January this year, less than half of it. Such figures are also the lowest for new energy vehicles in nearly two years. Production of new energy vehicles has not been lower than 40,000 since 2018. With the outbreak in February, January is likely to be the highest in the first half of this year.

The number of enterprises involved in production this month was 54, down by 4 compared with the same period last year, while the number of supporting enterprises involved in power batteries was 26, down 8 from the same period last year. Among the 26 power battery companies, the top 10 companies account for about 98.68% of the installed capacity.

According to the ranking of car companies in February, although the combined output of the top 10 car companies reached about 90% of the output of new energy passenger cars this month, with the exception of Tesla and BYD, the other top 10 car companies all produced less than 1000 vehicles per month.

Among them, the number of Tesla models reached 3898 in February, 2363 from Panasonic and 1535 from LG Chemical, accounting for 30% of the total production of new energy, surpassing 1708 of BYD in second place. Last month, however, Tesla's Gigafactory 3 in Shanghai produced 2625 domestic Model 3s, an output that only made Tesla the fifth-largest electric carmaker in January, rising to the top of the list in January. Obviously, under the epidemic, Tesla's output is increasing.

According to the China Automotive Information Network, in January this year, the number of new cars registered by Tesla in China was 3563, down 46.36% from 6643 in December last year. However, Tesla's sales in China will undoubtedly become the first in February this year. I have to admire that Tesla was still able to reverse the trend under the epidemic, which did not resume production until February 10.

BYD, which ranked second, produced only 1737 vehicles in February, including 1708 passenger cars and 29 passenger cars. Passenger car production fell by 94% compared with the same period last year. Obviously, BYD has not been spared at a time when the overall car market is declining. According to BYD's latest February sales figures, it sold only 5501 vehicles in February, down 79.5% from a year earlier. Of these, sales of the new energy section were only 2803, down 80.6% from the same period last year, while fuel models were 2698, down 78.25% from the same period last year.

BAIC New Energy, which is also the leader of sales, installed only 442 vehicles in February, but even fewer, only 255 vehicles, according to BAIC New Energy. According to the latest production and sales figures released by BAIC New Energy, sales in February were only 1002, down 65 per cent from 2867 in the same period last year and 55.54 per cent lower than in January.

The COVID-19 epidemic had a huge impact on the operation of the automobile industry in the first quarter, whether it was a "shutdown" in the sales market or a shortage of spare parts supply, which contributed to the collapse in car sales in February. The sharp decline in the output of new energy vehicles and the installed capacity of power batteries will inevitably lead to the development of the new energy market in the whole year is not optimistic.
