Among them, SAIC sold 47365 vehicles in February, down 86.95% from a year earlier; GAC GROUP sold 19347 vehicles in February, down 81.08% from a year earlier; BYD sold 5501 vehicles in February, down 79.5% from a year earlier; BAIC New Energy sold 1002 vehicles in February, down 65% from a year earlier; Geely sold 21168 vehicles in February, down 75% from a year earlier.

Retail sales fell 96 per cent year-on-year in the first week of February, 89 per cent year-on-year in the second week, 83 per cent in the third week and 63 per cent in the fourth week, according to previously released data from the Federation. Judging from the data, weekly sales have shown signs of picking up.

For the future, the Federation said that according to the development of the epidemic, the downturn in the car market in February exceeded expectations, the car market recovered slowly from March to April, and is expected to return to normal after May. However, if there is no strong stimulus at the national level, retail sales are expected to decline by 8% year-on-year in 2020. The Guangzhou municipal government issued a new energy car purchase policy on March 3. From March to the end of December 2020, consumers will give a comprehensive subsidy of 10, 000 yuan per car for the purchase of new energy vehicles. Consumers who replace or scrap used cars will receive a subsidy of 3000 yuan for new cars of the "National 6" standard. On March 6, Guangzhou will introduce more policies to stimulate car consumption; Hunan Province has also proposed to encourage car-free families to buy their first household new energy vehicles. Car companies and dealers are also encouraged to organize "cars to the countryside" promotion activities in the province to speed up the prosperity of the used car market. If these new measures can be implemented in March, then March car sales will be a good boost to car consumption.
