Brand Finance (Brand Finance), a British brand appraisal agency, has released a list of the 2020 most valuable car brands in the world. Among them, the Mercedes-Benz brand has become the most valuable automobile brand in the world for three consecutive years.

It is understood that the list is based on the calculation of concession rates to estimate the future revenue of the brand, as well as the net economic benefits that can be realized by the brand.

The ranking of the top 100 car brands includes not only car brands, but also commercial vehicle and motorcycle brands. A total of 22 Chinese (including mainland and Taiwan) car brands entered the top 100 list, with Geely, the highest ranked, at No. 20. Electric car leader Tesla ranked 12th, while Chinese electric car brand NIO ranked 65th on the list for the first time.

From the perspective of international brands, China accounts for the largest proportion of 21, mainly as many as nearly 100 independent Chinese brands, which means that nearly 40% of the brands are still not on the list. This was followed by the United States and Japan, with 18 and 15 respectively.

Compared with the value rankings in 2019, the value of many car companies has declined and many have increased, with Mercedes-Benz and Toyota in the top two showing shrinking value growth, such as Mercedes-Benz's 7.8% growth from 25% a year earlier. This is mainly because the Mercedes-Benz brand has invested heavily in response to the electrification trend over the past year. But it can still surpass Toyota, which is in second place, for $65.041 billion. According to Brand Finance, Mercedes-Benz customer service is the best in the industry.

Due to Toyota's market expansion in the past two years, 2020 is also the second time to surpass the Volkswagen brand. The growth of Volkswagen brand is relatively steady, which is different from the list of "2019 BrandZ Top 100 most valuable Brands" released by Kaidu in the UK, because Volkswagen brand can only rank ninth because of the influence of "emission gate" in recent years.

From the perspective of other brands, the ranking competition has not changed much, only the Audi brand has changed greatly, showing a decline of 2 seats, while the brand value has also fallen 13.6% from last year's $19.638 billion to $16.973 billion. The biggest increase in fuel models was the Gyibug brand, with a 62% increase in value of $4.1 billion, an increase of 16 seats in the ranking. The battery sector is better than the Tesla brand, which grew by 65% to $12.4 billion in 2020.

Although the NIO brand has been "blackened" in the domestic market, with its rapid growth in sales, it is ranked 64 places into the top 100 brand value for the first time, with a brand value of 1.1 billion US dollars. Although there are many Chinese brands, only Geely, Harvard and BYD occupy the top 30 brands. It is worth noting that the report also calculates independent brand branches, including Harvard and Wei, which ranked 27th and 93rd, while Great Wall ranks 73rd, both of which are from the Great Wall brand. There are also BYD at 30th and Song at 69th, meaning fewer independent brands are on the list. It is worth noting, however, that if Geely merges with Volvo, Chinese brands will appear in the top 10 global value brands.

Generally speaking, multinational car companies are generally stable in value and ranking, while independent brands grow slowly, only individual brands rank in the upper-middle level, perhaps compared with other national carmakers, the domestic start is relatively late. However, with the electrification transformation of the automobile era, electric cars have become another way to grow value faster.
