After the chip reduction incident was exposed, a number of car owners participated in the discussion in Tesla car owners, automobile forums, electric car bloggers and so on, questioning Tesla's unauthorized reduction without consumers' knowledge.

Tesla said in a statement on March 3 that the inconsistent installation of the hardware was affected by the supply chain during the outbreak. It said it would gradually provide free replacement HW3 for domestic Model3 owners whose controller hardware is HW2.5. However, this explanation has not been recognized by consumers. Subsequently, Tesla CEO Musk left a message saying that "those who complain do not actually choose the FSD function. If the FSD function is installed, Tesla will upgrade them to a HW3.0 chip for free", implying that Chinese consumers are "unreasonable".

The Weibo then aroused indignation among domestic consumers, and under the social media posted by Musk, most Tesla owners accused Musk of avoiding the most important points.

Tesla is the only listed electric car company in the United States. in the context of high sales and rising market capitalization, Tesla has always been between controversy and praise.

Data show that Tesla delivered 367500 electric vehicles in 2019, of which China accounted for 13% of Tesla's global sales. After resuming production on Feb. 10, the Shanghai Super Factory has reached a production rate of 3000 units per week.

At present, the domestic Model 3 only needs 300000 yuan to pick up the car, which is a big temptation for many consumers, and with the deepening of Tesla's future localization, domestic Model 3 is expected to achieve a lower purchase price. However, the way Tesla and Musk handled the chip incident did chill many consumers. While trying to please consumers with lower prices, they treated the Chinese market in an arrogant manner.
