AutoBeta(AutoBeta.net)03/16 Report--

In the most tense phase of the COVID-19 epidemic, a number of independent car companies have announced that they will begin to partially transform the production of masks in order to alleviate the current shortage of masks, including SAIC GM Wuling, BYD, Guangzhou Automobile and others have also joined the rapid production of masks. On March 16, SAIC General Motors Wuling and BYD announced that their masks were officially put on the market.

BYD announced that it has signed a "cooperation agreement with 15 million masks to serve the public" with China Resources Wanjia, National University Pharmacy, Haiwang Xingchen, North and South Medicine, Tinker Bell Express and Zoomlion Pharmacy in Shenzhen. From March 16 to March 31, BYD will supply 15 million disposable medical masks to the six companies at a price limit of 2.50 yuan each.

However, 15 million masks provided by BYD are sold only in the Shenzhen market. It is said that at present, BYD has a production capacity of 5 million masks and 300000 bottles of disinfection gel per day.

By contrast, masks made by SAIC GM Wuling are available for free. SAIC GM Wuling announced on March 16 that it will officially open the national free application channel for Wuling masks, and more than 6 million masks are expected to be distributed to alleviate the current mask shortage.

The "Wuling" mask needs to be applied for through the SAIC GM Wuling official App "Lingbang". Users can choose to participate in two forms: free extraction or gold coin exchange.

In addition, the masks produced by GAC are not sold to the public for the time being and are donated to the Public Security Bureau, hospitals, the local Red Cross, sanitation workers, the families of Guangdong medical aid team members, and other institutions or groups.

So far, only BYD has sold the masks produced by independent car companies, while the rest have donated or distributed them free of charge.

BYD's public relations department said that the masks sold by BYD are sold at an affordable price and will not consider making a profit.

Some netizens joked that cars are becoming more and more difficult to sell, but the production of face masks is out of stock.
